Check that, I just went to that link and looked again. The price is $240.00 per person for one night for a double room. That's $480.00 total!!! Then I went back and edited, and added an additional night. The additional night adds $200 total ($100 per person) so the grand total for two nights is $680. Why the hell are they charging $240.00 per person for the hotel, game tickets (which cost $20.00 each) and a bus to take you 2 miles each way to the stadium on the night of the 3rd, but only charging $100.00 per person for just the hotel for the night of the 4th? What a total fvkcing ripoff. You know, some good friends of mine really got screwed over by Soccer Vacations.com at the 2006 World Cup. They reported all their problems to US Soccer, and US Soccer more or less "fired" Antonio Paz when the World Cup was over. In fact, I remember reading something on BigSoccer about Soccer Vacations being investigated by FIFA for its shady dealings in Germany. Too lazy to look for the link, but a search should find it for those interested. Then he starts a new company, and US Soccer goes back to him and is using him as the official soccer travel company again? What the hell? Can't they find a decent travel agent who isn't going to rip off soccer fans? Then again, given US Soccer's track record, I know they don't give a flying fvkc how fans get treated. Sad, really, when you think about it.
Just for shits and grins, I looked at the Ole Ole site and priced a double occupancy room for the Mexico away qualifier and the Salt Lake City home qualifier Mexico City: * One night accommodations at the Sheraton Maria Isabel Hotel & Towers Ck-in Wed. August 12th / Ck-out Thurs, August 13th * USA v Mexico Category 3 Ticket Endline * Round trip transfers from the hotel to the match * Professional Onsite Concierge Services $710.00 USD Price from Starwoodhotels.com/sheraton Sheraton Maria Isabel Hotel and Towers Paseo de la Reforma 325 Col. But Ole Ole is a gigantic ripoff and IMO US Soccer should discontinue their relationship with them.
Found the post with the link to the FIFA report about ticket brokers (including Soccer Travel / Soccer Vacations) ripping people off at the 2006 World Cup https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=16812107&postcount=26 I guess it's shouldn't be surprising that the company name keeps changing. Soccer Travel, Soccer Vacations, VIP Global Sports, and now Ole Ole.
I think that your point has been made and nobody is arguing. I, along with many others, have made that point before and continue to make it. But, nothing new has been said. What the hell do I care? I don't.
Fair enough. Sorry bout that. So this is a pretty damned nice hotel in San Jose. It would probably cost what Ole Ole is charging if it was in Manhattan or San Francisco.
Hey, don't have time to read the whole thread. As it turns out, I'll be in San Jose during the game. If anyone has a line on tix, please PM me. Also, I'm pretty familiar with Costa Rica, so if anyone needs travel tips, let me know. Anyone going that doesn't have tickets? Would be happy to take over a bar as well. I was there when we beat CR in the Gold Cup in 03 and had a great time.
Count me as another going to Costa Rica for the game. My buddy bailed out so I have an extra ticket if anyone still needs one. I'll be arriving in San Jose on the 3rd, and staying for a few days.
I´m staying at Hotel Aranjuez as well. Just arrived today with my girlfriend. If you´d like to meet up to get some drinks and to travel together to the stadium, let me know. Sounds like Bugaloo will be the first meeting spot before the game. What time does everyone plan to arrive?
Steve Goff of the Washington Post is in San Jose and is reporting that around 200 US supporters are expected for Wednesday's game. Excellent turnout if true.
I´m thinking of leaving getting there around 5 or so. BTW, great to hear that 200 US fans have made the trip here. Hopefully this encourages the USSF to continue providing tickets for away games.
Which bar? I know that the party I'm with are tentatively planning to hit Bugaloo by around 5:30 or so.
That's the one I've heard mentioned...so that sounds good to me. I have a line on one ticket, still need one more. Anyone have an annoyed wife in tow that would rather be shopping? Heres her big chance!
Must have missed it earlier in the thread but where is Boogaloo's in relationship to the stadium? How many fans are planning on meeting up there? It would be nice to get a group of 20 or so US fans to head over to the stadium. Anyone on the ground yet in Costa Rica? Any reports? I get in tonight!
I'm trying to figure out exactly where that is. Costa Rica's essentially nonexistent system of addresses doesn't make it particularly easy. I saw the team a little bit ago on their bus and got a few of them to wave at me. I'm pretty stoked.
Not in San Jose, but in Quepos My blog Robert's and Amy's blog (our travel companions) The four of us have been in CR since Saturday.
From my buddy Doug's e-mail to me: "The Bar in Tibas is called Bar Bugaloo and is located off the main road (to San Jose)."
nice to hear of the decent turnout. sure there's talk of it elsewhere in this one, but will the usa supporters all be together, or spread around the stadium?
Been having touble finding out where Bugaloo's is. If we can't find it a couple of us might also meet up at a bar called the Rolling Stones which is near the stadium as well.
