I’d say he had bad moments than he was bad overall. He was just inconsistent. Typical of a young defender. What irks me most about him being ignored is that evidence will be used to forever condemn a player. Rather than look at his total improvement at the club level as justification that he needs to still be in the picture.

We will continue to have enough need for good outside attacking backs that if Robinson continues a solid, steady club career he should get additional looks. When I've watched him he seems fairly naive as a player but has obvious skills and quickness. A season or two of brawling in the Champs could season him up a bit more.

We got plenty of fullbacks who can't defend already.

we have some decent pieces to throw in with Miazga, Brooks, Carter-vickers. Honestly those three should be the only ones in discussion for starting lineups.

After that, our fullbacks arent bad at all. Yedlin, Dest, Robinson and Cannon would all be servicable in my book.

Throw in Gloster, Araujo and Richards and one of those should be ready by WC time.

Its not doom and gloom unless you think of the fact that no matter who we have, they will be coached by Greg....

CCV hasn’t shown to be a better player than Long at all. I used to be a CCV bull but eventually you have to show it, and he hasn’t yet. I don’t know how you’d consider him but in no scenario consider Long. I don’t really rate either of them at this point to be clear.

Robinson may be useful as a wingback, at best.

This comment isn’t useful when the alternative is Daniel Lovitz as LB.

The irrational FB exuberance is making my day...

Robinson is not yet the best option, but he has shown some skills that could make him useful.

Not sure he's ever #1 when everyone's healthy, but it will be interesting to see him in another year, I think.

Depends on the system we use. Sticking to four at the back, against a strong rival, I'd keep Ream as the LB. Against a weaker one, Dest.

I've watched enough of Robinson to be all too aware of his defensive weaknesses.

Tim Ream has been playing professional soccer since Robinson was like 11.

But not enough of Ream to be aware of his, apparently. He's a horrible, no good, very bad fullback.

Tim Ream: getting physically dominated in the Gold Cup group stage since 2013!

Ream is terrible as a CB. as a LB, he's like a third CB, which is what we'd need when playing a Top 20 team in a meaningful game. Not that he's good, but our fullbacks-who-can't-defend would be a worse alternative.

I will avoid going too USMNT in this thread, but will point out again: Robinson is 22. He has room to grow, grasshoppers.

And coming off potentially the best stretch of his career right now? Not only is there room to grow, there's evidence that he actually is improving, unlike some others.

He seems to be playing a more conservative or simpler game. At Bolton, he was super aggressive and equally creating goals and giving them up. Last year at Wigan, he was similar and was more played at wingback to limit his defense. But this year, you rarely see highlights of him as he is not giving up goals or creating them. But he is Top 10 in dribbles per 90 and his WS score is very high. Hard to catch Wigan games, but that tells me he is more involved in moving the offense forward in the back 2/3rds.

It could also be that he has been good but Wigan's forwards are so poor nothing comes of his offensive work.

He starts every game. Only the GK, who has played every minute, has more minutes than him.

Hard to tell, since Wigan is not easy to catch on TV and the Championship is a slog, but I get the feeling something has clicked and Robinson has taken a step forward as a defender. It might be that he is not over committing to the offense like he used to and is scrambling less. But he is still Top 5 in dribbles completed and is Top 5 in interceptions.
