Antonee Robinson played for Everton today, which I believe was his debut. USA U18 player. Center back. #USMNT https://t.co/HEeOQzxxyz— Joe Gould (@twelfthyank) July 28, 2015
I believe he's going off Robinson's Transfermarkt page which lists him as a CB, but I think he's primarily a LB now. All of his U21 appearances have been at LB and he's referred to as such by Everton (and other sources).
started in an 0-2 loss to leeds http://www.evertonfc.com/fixtures/2010-to-2019/2015-2016/friendly/leeds-united/match
Kieran Dowell and Gethin Jones along with Pennington and Robinson made their very first starts for the senior side. The latter three helped make up the back four, joining Tyias Browing who impressed in a handful of Premier League games early last season, while Dowell followed up recent substitute appearances, starting on the right of midfield. After a wobbly start the defensive line grew in composure, none more so than left-back Robinson who impressed with far flung forays into the Leeds half. On the opposite flank, Dowell was doing his best to unlock the Leeds defence and when Everton came forward, they looked most threatening with these two on the ball. http://evertonviral.com/leeds-united-2-0-everton-reaction-analysis/
considering our dearth of options at left back, I certainly wouldn't mind him getting a look. He's still awfully young though, age eligible for the 2020 Olympics too.

Martinez comments on the match... Video includes all quotes in article. Nice to see his comments about youth players (pretty sure he is my favorite coach). http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2015/08/01/robertos-reaction Highlights.... 20 minute highlights that are really only 15:47 (requires registration). http://www.evertonfc.com/evertontv/archive/2015/08/02/leeds-united-20-everton-20minute-highlights Based on these highlights, he looks to have good pace, willing to go into aerial battles, decent touch, gets forward a lot, has decent defensive positioning and awareness of runners... Still needs to improve defensively at the Championship level (not surprising for just turning 18 and debut). Could've done better on first goal at tracking runner on one, two (odd play in that he picked up the runner and then switched back) and closing attacker on the second. Almost had an assist on first time ball into the box and drew a corner on a deflected shot. Looks like he could've helped our U20s. I would give him a shot with Oly qualifying... probably too soon, but could see him ready by next summer.
Highlights of u21 game vs Tottenham (registration req).. http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spu...er-league/barclays-u21-pl--spurs-4-1-everton/ A couple plays seemed to go down his side in the first half but hard to see. Around 2:40 he makes a good run back to get ball side of his man. Again looks to have good pace and awareness/responsibility for marking. Its hard to tell from just a few clips, but getting the feeling he needs to be more aggressive/physical when defending. Definitely looks to have lots of upside.
may be a miracle but he could make the bench for league matches. i could see him on the bench for cup matches. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ury-updates-on-everton-stars-ankle-and-return
With Baines out for 12 weeks now will be is chance to make a bench appearance. Galloway is a youngster and Oviedo and Barry both can play LB.
I have never seen Robinson play but with Garbutt signing a new deal and Galloway being younger plus Baines. The left back position is pretty stacked up. He will has to really impress to push for any first team minutes in the next 4 years.
Galloway is primarily a central defender who can play either full back position. If Antonee is good enough to play for Everton, he will. Everton doesn't buy tons of big priced players like some other teams in England do. They give chances to younger players.
Gallaway taken off at halftime today with a leg injury. Browning came into play left-back. If Gallaway's injury is real and seriour then he may get a shot or two at the bench or cup starts.
I really don't think he's going to play for the first team this season. They can just have Oviedo fill in at LB for a few weeks. Browning as the back up off the bench.
Oviedo has been "nearing match fitness" for about a month now. He didn't even make the bench today, despite our defensive depth issues. Browning is a CB who has (some) professional experience at RB. Ditto Matthew Pennington, who was on loan at Coventry last year. Funes Mori, our newest CB, is left-footed but likely won't have his work permit until later this week. Mason Holgate (18 year old signed from Barnsley) is also a CB with experience at RB. Which is to say: there is a chance Robinson makes the bench for the League Cup tie with Barnsley. There is also a chance Martinez relies on a patchwork of position-swapping youngsters until Oviedo proves his fitness. Even when (if?) Oviedo returns to action, and even with the international break giving us some breathing room, there's no guarantee he'll stay fit. The (unfortunate) likeliest scenario for Robinson: the older/higher-touted CBs and RBs get their crack at filling - or providing cover at - the LB berth. Martinez, who is a big believer in loan spells for 18-and-older prospects, is forced to keep Robinson at home this season because of the LB crisis.
Not terribly surprising, but Oviedo gets the start (with Pennington at RB, interestingly). Browning and Holgate provide cover across the back. Would have been nice to see Robinson make the bench, but Roberto is a big believer in loans and experience at lower levels. (Holgate and Galloway both earned starts at their first clubs; Pennington and Browning went out on loan.) If he thinks Robinson has a chance to break through, he'll ship him out once the LB situation stabilizes in January.
