They have a stadium already, but they want another. This one with a roof to keep out the rain. They even want public financing. All for their 2 weeks a year when they use the tennis center. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/jon_wertheim/09/06/roof/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
They will not get private funding for a roof or a new stadium, but the USTA has some clout on that land. They just approved building another 3K stadium without public comments. Their lease lets them do some odd shit it seems. Dont know all the details though. Any chance this gets public funding though - none!
Supposedly the US Open in the two weeks that it's there, brings in more money to the City than do all the other professional sports COMBINED!
I didn't believe you at first. But took a quick journey on the internet: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-...rk-economy-by-420-million-organizers-say.html
Yep - and thats with NO ROOF. I dont see the city financing a roof for an already successful event. Tickets will still sell.
