Meh Bayern is a fantastic part of the world but Munich is easily one of the most boring cities in Germany
Maybe I'm a boring person but everytime I have been to Munich (or broader Bavaria) I have loved it. Part of it may be that there is a beer cellar down the block from our office and it was considered perfectly appropriate to get a wurst and beer for lunch. I also love the Englischer Garten and the beer garden there.
I agree wider Bayern is great - they got all the landscape while us up north got flat sandy pine forests and rain
Bavaria was the main zone of US occupation after the war. One of my college history professors in discussing post war Germany put it this way: The Russians got the agriculture The British got the industry We got the scenery
Munich is the perfect city for starting a family/life. Hamburg and Berlin are for partying all the way through your 20ies. And Munich has the best city symbol:
Visited Munich for work 3 years ago. Really liked the look of it as it didnt feel like a big built up city, but I didn't spend enough time there to see what sort of vibe it has. My weekend in Berlin 10 years ago was great, one of my favourite places in Europe.
Merkel policy statement today - she looked rather dull but admitted mistakes - SPD managed to look duller - her government seems quarreled after 1 week in office - AFD whips(now first opposition party) humiliated her in speeches and she ignored it (more or less)
Personal I prefer dull politicans. They don’t get you into bad situations. As for the AfD she ignored them — well good.
By the way (and it's mostly because of my feelings toward the OP) I love this thread title. I never stop getting a kick out of it. Maybe in 2021 the thread title will be correct. Maybe.
Those werent grand coalitions aka "CDU+SPD" An interview of Vera Lengsfeld (former CDU MEP) who was a human rights activist in the GDR and knows Merkel from the start of her political career and she basically confirmed that Ange is by heart a social democrat. And it shows in the pic. Ange only ended up at the GDR counterpart of the CDU cause her father knew one of the highest party officials in that minor party. From her political views she belonged to SPD but she didnt see any career options there. Later when she was minister for family she did policies that were left to SPD and when she was minister for the environment she single handedly signed Kyoto against the party line and the then chancellor Kohl. She did 3 social democratic dominated grand coalitions disrupting the political landscape so that there are two parties in Bundestag right of CDU which was like last seen in the 50ies. The larger public is completely unaware of this
Yeah and being "as good as done" and holding office without any real power exxlude one another, too. classic brummie
