Good to see Andrija stay in Holland and move up to the Eredivisie. That was my preference all along. IIRC, Fortuna has a slew of good young players so hopefully their chance of survival is good with a few additions like Andrjia. They were captained by 18-yr old CB phenom Perr Schuurs who has snapped up by Ajax in Jan and loaned back to Fortuna. I wonder if he’ll again be loaned back to Fortuna. Nonetheless, not knowing their attacking options and looking on paper, I suspect Andjria is an upgrade and will get his chances.
Just as a correction to this tweet: Sittard won promotion automatically, not through the playoff. My mistake https://t.co/71UUtac1j1— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) June 20, 2018

The direct promotion winner takes him on loan. Nice. They'll have scouted him thoroughly throughout the season and are comfortable in spending circa 450-500k Euros** of their own money on him in their first season back, so he'll be expected to be at least capable of starting from August. That's a major vote of confidence in, not his potential, but in his current abilities. ** He's already turned 21, so I'm assuming the Dutch non-EU minimum kicks in already. If it doesn't until 22, they'll have to pay about 270k IIRC. Still a significant outlay for a club like Fortuna.
Great point. And he gets an entire preseason to integrate himself into the team. I think this will be a fantastic situation for him.
Captain at age 18? Damn, even Fernando Torres had to be 19 before he captained Atletico in La Liga. Speaks volumes of the kid.

Brian's take on Andrija's move: http://americansoccernow.com/articl...xtension-and-moves-to-fortuna-sittard-on-loan
I wouldn't assume Fortuna is paying all his wages. I'd be pretty surprised if they were. Additionally, he has a Euro passport (which allowed him to be in England all this time) which I would suspect means he counts just as any regular EU citizen would count towards foreign player minimums and salaries and the like.
Traditionally, it can be tough to be a striker on a promoted club... usually those teams are inferior to the competition and aren't able to play a ton of attacking soccer.. we will see how it goes..
Interesting to note when researching a bit about Fortuna's squad, Lisandro Semedo, who scored 15 goals for them last season spent some time in Reading's youth teams as well. Presumably, Andrija could have some familiarity with him. It also looks like Fortuna had a potent attack netting second most in the Eerste with 82 goals while conceeding a league low 41. Along with Semedo's 15, Finn Stokkers (11), Andre Vidigal (10), Stefan Askovski (12), and Djibril Dianessy (11) scored double digits. I don't know if all those guys are back with Fortuna but it clearly appears on paper they like to attack. That defintely bodes well for Andrija and hopefully means he will be supplied good service and chances - if Sittard can translate some of that attack from Eerste to Eredivisie.
Yes. https://deadspin.com/chart-the-average-player-salaries-in-soccer-leagues-ar-1658856283 Maybe I'm wrong
You're entirely right. He does have a UK passport, via his England-born mother, so the non-EU minimum salary rule doesn't apply to him. I'd forgotten about that. My bad. Still a significant feather in his cap, but not as dramatic as I made it out to be.
One thing you can count on, if a Yank is playing in England, he is either a USMNT player with a bunch of caps or he has an EU/EEA passport. [Footnote: this rule of thumb is subject to expiration at some point in the future.]
