Except in the post you’re quoting, he was talking about alt righters and if you go back in the chain, Wankler specifically names 2 Trump supporters and a Trump supporting website. how was that tribalism?
The post I'm quoting doesn't quote a post, but the immediate post above references Spencer endorsing(-ish) Yang. Yang is putting forth some pretty populist ideas. Not sure how that does much to what I said.
Maybe I am but then again that’s pretty normal around here. Now if you’re genuinely interested in the answer to your question, why not just do a web search?
This is probably the right place for this one https://slate.com/culture/2019/03/j...tform-for-freethinkers-who-hate-the-left.html
Some fair criticisms (Rogan does have a penchant for conspiracy theories, and while he drew the line at Sandy Hook, he still seems convinced that Hillary's career has a body count), and a few decent points about his biases, though some of those objections seem to be objecting on the grounds that Rogan's biases differ from those of the author. And as to Rogan not always pursuing lines of questioning, that's true, but I could make the same objections about various NPR and PBS interviewers. This strikes me as a bit unfair: We are living in the dumbest period of modern American history, where our centering institutions have destabilized, our governing social norms seem unenforceable, and our fast-food restaurants routinely insult one another on Twitter. Into this breach have stepped myriad articulate charlatans, aggro-provocateurs, and other confident dullards who seek to capitalize on the end of authority by using the internet to proclaim their own truths. Their goal is to convince the world’s least-informed people that they are actually the most-informed people, and they are very good at their jobs. These grifters, who include the president of the United States, profit by obscuring facts for personal gain. They are working an angle, all of them: the health gurus and conspiracy theorists, the life hackers peddling easy solutions to difficult problems, the IDW stalwarts who sneer at “PC culture” and “identity politics” as a means of reassuring cisgender white males that they are not and have never been the problem. Rogan has given these people a safe space where they and their grifts can feel right at home. The problem with that objection is that you can turn it around and apply it to representatives of "our centering institutions," not least of which I would consider universities. I don't listen when Rogan does MMA based shows. I don't listen to the likes of Ben Shapiro, or Alex Jones. He tried to do a good one on health and nutrition a few days ago, but it got away from him (the two representatives with opposing views had a history w/ each other Rogan wasn't prepared for), but I generally listen to those. I usually listen to his interviews with comics -- when he starts talking about the craft of comedy, it's damn good. His interviews with certain authors like Sebastian Junger and Jonathan Haidt are significantly better than said authors interviews on NPR, not least because they're TEN TIMES longer.
Abby Martin is a regular on JRE. This analysis is shit. As for "peddling easy solutions to difficult problems", nobody is more honest about hard work than Rogan. He is absolutely anti shortcut.
Slate is a pretty left of center bias magazine. They do tend to be reliable with their information from the few articles I have read (as far as I could tell). I have only seen Rogan stuff on youtube clips, I doubt I could listen for 3 hours. The first time I saw one of his show was with Neil D Tayson.
One of my oldest friends often opines that he can't decide if Joe Rogan is a stupid smart person, or a smart stupid person. I agree that he can be very interesting on certain subjects, and I don't think he's a bad person, but while this article may be harsh I think you're giving him too much benefit of the doubt. His bullshit detector is completely broken.
I don't mind Rogan on MMA and he was an OK comic. But for the love of God - why would he have Alex Jones on? That dude is lower than dogshit and can rot in f#cking hell for what he's done to the Newtown families.
Indeed. There are lines you don't cross, I don't care how stoned you are or how much airtime you have to fill.
