Martinez plays a good backheel to Carleton but Carleton's shot is right at Ousted. Should've done better.

little dribble down the touch line is all it takes to see that he looks different carrying the ball than anyone else in the pool

Completely agree, they're on completely different wavelengths at all times.

    Played 65 minutes.

Assisted the second goal. Technically, MLS isn't listing it as an assist, but he beat a defender, crossed the ball, the defender deflected it and it went to Martinez who tapped it in. Either way, Carleton started both Atlanta goals, and put in a good performance. Not great, but I don't see how Martino can at this point not give Carleton regular minutes, whether its starting or off the bench.

As I said in the mls weekly thread, Tata looked pleased with Carleton when he came off the field.

I was really surprised with the start. If Carleton is the next guy on the depth chart of one of Almiron, Villalba, and Barco is missing, why hasn’t he subbed in more this season? Did something recent change Tata’s opinion?

I’d imagine 65’ was planned from the start, so I’m really curious to see if his performance changed anything going forward.

Much better second half. Almiron was horrible (was that because Durkin was good?) and that affected everyone.

Almidón has no right foot. I think he's incredibly overrated, and Martinez is incredibly underrated (probably the best player in the league). Almiron doesn't even try to make right footed plays. If a right-footed play needs to be made, he'll spin around with his left to the other side, which'll take up extra time. That won't work in better leagues where there's less time and space. And while he's clearly a good counter-attacking threat, I don't think he has the best decision-making. I'm not convinced he'd do that well in Europe. I think Martinez would do much better.

Fully rooting for Martinez to destroy that MLS goal record. He is the best forward that ever played in the league and deserves it. Almiron is poor people Donovan. Ironically the same people that hated Landon pray to Almiron.

Most lefties tend to be dominantly one footed in soccer

The one that scored 3 PKs? No need for the second leg there.

Martinez is going to crush that goal-scoring record.

I though Carleton did fine today. Nothing to make you jump out of your chair, but he did fine. I'm not sure its enough to displace Barco on a permanent basis, but certainly enough for Tata to feel comfortable with starting him again.

I'd feel comfortable starting an orange cone against that DCU team, though :)
[Are there people old enough on this board to remember the player we nicknamed "the orange traffic cone?"]

I think this Atlanta team has a decent shot at the double. I'm not entirely convinced with a couple of positions. Defensive midfield. Centerback. But there are question marks on every MLS team. Atlanta is as good as anybody. And at home they're a monster. If they can win the SS and get home field throughout the playoffs...……….WATCH OUT!

Tata would be an idiot not to give him at least one more game as a 20+ min sub.

What we have to hope for/what he needs to do is replace Kratz as the go-to midfield sub every game.

He's so good at knowing what he's going to do with the ball before receiving it that he never has to make any awkward movements, but yeah, he'll play some crazy passes with the outside of his right all the time.
