Does this dude have the same agent/manager as Memo? This dude won the best player in the eredivisie a year or two ago, he has 3 WC under his belt, is the captain of the sele, is in his prime, and he gets sold for 2.2 mil? Jesus.
No. 2.2 mil, man. Hell, 5 mill and I'd still say the same thing. He could have gone 5-10 no problem. But hey, what do I know.
It's all about the agents, and if the club doesn't mind selling low for the benefit of the player (PSV is indeed class) On the other hand you have dudes like Jimenez with the best agent in the world being rumored to be sold for upwards to 50mil when they are clearly not worth that. Then you have clubs like Porto who only want to make a profit, so they only sell to the highest bidder and if they are not willing to pay anything near the player's release clause then they are ********ed (Herrera) and forced to be Porto Lifers. I still think Herrera should've been sold after the amazing season he had with Jackson Martinez in the Champions League. Anyways... At the end of the day we forget that this sport that we so do love very much is a business, and shady shit always happens in business.
He made a deal with PSV. He wanted to leave a season earlier, but PSV wanted and needed him to stay. So they agreed on another season and PSV wouldnot stand in his way if he would get an offer at the end of the season. So PSV kept their word.
Only one season left on his contract and higher transfer fee probably would have ment less salary. Given his age there isnot much chance he will rise in value. So they surely have calculated what they in total (transfer fee plus salary) wanted to spend.
Rise in value? So, he's been worth 2.2 mil all along? All your arguments would be valid if the number was way higher than 2.2 mil. He's 30 and coming off his best season a year or two ago. Just sayin'
Mmm.....no. I didnot say his value is at 2.2 atm. I said that at his age a rise in value isnot probable ....as he's obviously only getting older, not younger. So paying more, especially given he only had one year left on his contract, would mean more depreciation for the club. PSV had an agreement with Guardado. The Betis club isnot one that can afford to pay more than they did. And they were the only ones to come with an offer that Guardado liked. So all that combined leads to that price.
He might only be 30 but he's like many through sports when they start on their team young. When they're 30 they have the feel of someone who's 36.
Betis loaded up on players this off season. It seems like they're serious about earning a European spot this year. They switched coaches and picked up: 1. CM Jonas Martin, 2. GK- Adan (very good keeper) 3. RB- Barragan 4. CM- Camarasa 5. LW- Tello 6. ST- Sergio Leon 7. Guardis They made serious additions by adding a quality keeper, they strengthened every line. It's looking like a beast of a squad right now... they also have Joaquin at RW. I believe he played for Valencia a while back ago when they qualified for the CL. Seems like Guardis made this decision because it was presented as an opportunity to do something special with this club. Good on him.
