Just pay attention to what he's been saying about Herrera (pretty sure you can find nuggets in this very thread) and that will tell you everything you want to know...
He is an overrated 7/10 player who has been our second best midfield player this season. Running around a lot does not a good player make.
He is a fairly rated 7.5/10 player with very low variance. Low variance is highly valuable for a coach. You want that from your core (CBs and deeper central mids).
I like Ander but any mention of his name along with Keane is a syntax error. Keano was a monster. Despite his strained relationship with the club, what he was as a player for the club and as a captain should not be understated.
Spoken like one. Man United's Herrera on captaincy: 'I still have to win things for the club' http://www.espn.in/football/manches...s-ander-herrera-i-dont-deserve-to-captain-yet
"scrapper from Spain / he can follow an opponent all afternoon" Ander Herrera: the Spanish scrapper who gives Manchester United a feisty edge https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...herrera-manchester-united-europa-league-final
The right words to describe Ander's impact this season are hard to find. After De Gea, it's a tossup between Herrera, Ibra and Pogba for first name on the squad sheet. I was staggered the first time I watched him in person. He looked like a footballer who belonged at the Camp Nou, not Old Trafford.
As it's been mentioned, the rumblings about Valverde wanting to reunite with Herrera are getting louder. One of Woody's first tasks this summer is to wrap this business up ASAP. Kind of odd they've waited that long: Herrera obviously loves United, but the opportunity to join Barca, with his old manager could be tempting (especially if a new contract is not wrapped up quickly).
Herrera will snub Barca and is reported to start talks ona new contract with United. www.espnfc.us/story/3135751/manchester-uniteds-ander-herrera-set-to-snub-barcelona-move-sources
Meh, he had a good first season, followed by a relatively indifferent second one (even if it wasn't all his fault). Don't really blame the club to want to see what he'd do this season, under a new manager before making any decision. And from Herrera's point of view, the wait will have been worth it. His bargaining position is way stronger than it could have been last season and his salary will reflect that. It all looks like it will work out in the end for all parties.
United midfielder Ander Herrera (27) will reject the meeting with Valverde, who wants him to join Barça. Herrera wants to stay put. [times]— Barcastuff (@barcastuff__) May 30, 2017
Keeping Herrera has to be a priority for Manchester United. www.espnfc.com/club/manchester-united/360/blog/post/3136165/manchester-united-should-go-out-of-their-way-to-keep-ander-herrera
If these reports are to be believed, it's actually astonishing that a Spanish footballer would reject an opportunity to join Barcelona and remain a United man. That Herrera is being considered as Iniesta's replacement speaks volumes of the quality of Ander Herrera. The chance to be a regular starter for Barcelona is something every Spanish footballer dreams of. Nay, make that any footballer on the planet. Ruud is absolutely right: Herrera should be given the captaincy with immediate effect.
