The Board has been moved to a new server today and should be faster once systems update. There may be a small bit of housekeeping to do still but we wanted to bring the site online as quickly as possible and these can be done live. Please report any issues you find here and thanks for being patient
Major infrastructure changes at BigSoccer without prolonged delay and drama? What sort of magic is this?
When I go to see my recent posts on my profile, it lists my posts from after today's change and then skips back to July 30. The "Recent Activity" tab has all my recent posts, but the "Postings" tab does not.
These new people don't remember the 90s when it'd be down almost every weekend or whenever Huss sneezed.
I can see why @Huss had a tough time keeping the site online back then. The amount of posting volume here is pretty high, especially for hardware back then. This new server has a lot more power than the last and once settled we'll start looking at some other minor enhancements. If you all have any suggestions for improvements, please post them here: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/bigsoccer-wishlist.2024079/
To be honest, there's a lot of "community threads" in FFA and other places that get a lot of traffic. Before Facebook, some such as BSSM would see almost 24/7 traffic due to people posting late on the west coast, European afternoons, east coast mornings, etc. From about 1999-2000 until maybe 2006 and even continuing today, this site *was* social networking for a lot of people. We'd meet up at USMNT games and introduce ourselves by our screen names here. People post things like: "I'll be the guy at the USA-themed school bus in the blue Dempsey jersey" and whatnot. We've shed tears when members have died, even if we've never met them in real life. I'm sure marriages have happened because of the site. The first software I remember the site using was Ultimate Bulletin Board (soccerboards.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi) in 1998/1999... and yes, it would go down with regularity.
I am really hoping everyone notices speed improvements. That was one of my goals when we started building the new infrastructure.
It was working fine right up to this server update. However, it was something that only got sorted out last March when I started a thread here to address the issue. Before that it hadn't been working at all. Check this out: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads...unction-in-search-engine-not-working.2018023/
One thing I've noticed. The total views for each thread is only reflecting the number of posts. Look at any thread created this week and you'll see that the total views is the same as the number of replies. Just one higher for the original post. For instance, this thread now has 22 replies and 23 views. Is this just a glitch or does this software not count total views?
You are right. Look at the weekly running thread and the recent daily news threads here: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/forums/mls-news-analysis.151/ The view counts should be massively higher, but both are just one count ahead of views.
I don't know where to put this, & I didn't want to start a new thread for it. The post count/ page views is not updating, ever since the re-install.
