I think it is a simple-minded devolution of the truism about "draft tackles not guards because if a guy turns out not to be able to play tackle you can make a guard out of him and still get some return." There's some truth to that-- Robert Gallery-- but if you make it an absolute rule instead more sort of a guideline, you overlook: Guys who can absolutely play guard you could have drafted instead and That you still need a starter and now have one too many backup guards and That the league has already evolved some from when the notion was born-- guards are, at this point, something more than failed tackles. So I'd say go ahead and take a Ben Grubbs high, and let 'em laugh; he's going to knock a lot of people backwards for you while that maybe-tackle you pass over is still trying to get on the field-- or worse yet is on the field still trying...
For me, it's about asking the question of is Marshal Yanda, for example, that much less valuable to an offensive line than, say, Joe Thomas. I don't think so. You take the better player, regardless of positional value, with some exceptions (punter or kicker or quarterback or long snapper) because there's more than one way to win in the NFL, and not all of them involve a dominant left-tackle.
Well, age-and-salary being equal, I'd certainly trade Yanda even up for Thomas in a hurry. But I wouldn't hesitate to draft Yanda in the first round if all the guaranteed Thomases were already gone or in other classes.
Scot being let go is official. I thought I went through the most embarrassing moments as a fan, but I think this takes the cake. Yeah, I'm still a fan but I'm prepared to watch the NFL as a neutral this season because I know we ain't doing shit.
Synder's worst mistake so far. And Bruce Allen, like I feared when he originally was hired, is a horrible influence on him.
It sounded like Scot was the guy who wanted to pump the brakes on Cousins and try to angle for a shakeup at QB. Now it sounds like he's gone, the 9ers have pulled out, and Kirk's pissed as hell that he didn't get the long-term job security, and might leave anyways for nothing. Just the worst of all worlds.
All I can tell you is people in front offices around NFL are strongly defending McCloughan to me. They are absolutely shredding Washington.— mike freeman (@mikefreemanNFL) March 10, 2017 Keep digging in.
Saw this earlier : Was told late in the season of jealousy up top and how they'd one day use McCloughan drinking as an excuse to can him. Exactly what happened— Mike Jones (@ByMikeJones) March 10, 2017
If the Texans can't get Romo, they should go after Jay. I think he'd be a fit there. I don't see any point of him going to the Jets.
Damn, I actually like some of the moves the Iggles are making. Just picked up two solid linemen in Warmack and Wisniewski.
He has been a disappointment, but they got him for basically the veteran's minimum and they were an absolute dumpster fire inside last year.
In other news the latest rumor is that we're in the hunt for TJ Lang alonsgside Seattle. Not a bad potential acquisition.
#Vikings WR/returner Cordarrelle Patterson, who just visited the #Redskins, is off to visit with the #Raiders, source said.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 10, 2017 @Harambe Alvinegro
I like the move, especially for the $$$. If he produces, we can lock him up. But as we know, anything is possible with this front office. His girlfriend is from around here so apparently that was a factor in his decision. I know Browns fans are mad because they were told they offered a multi year deal for $8 per.
