And yet if you go to the "clubs" page ( http://www.aslsoccer.org/clubs ), it's listed as the Philadelphia Atoms, with this modern-day logo: Selecting this logo leads you to a combined Fury-Atoms logo
They are two separate clubs, but doesn't Driver run both of 'em? Because Philadelphia is plenty big enough for three poorly run soccer clubs, amirite?
I wonder why VOMOZ media doesn't have a Facebook page. Anyway, I'm not an ASL knocker, the more football in the US the better.
But considering we have taken years to overcome the idea that nobody cared and that our teams were not fly-by-night and that leagues were unstable, a ramshackle league like the ASL is actually doing more harm than good.
I thought that we might have seen the last of this thread when if reached the second page. Nope. The ride continues. As of today there is yet another version of its website. It probably should not be live yet, as the teams it lists are not from the ASL..... http://www.aslsoccer.org/view_newsupdates3.asp?action=view_newsdetail&id=102 also shows the old IFM Maryland team, not the new Atoms team. The page up last week also noted that the Atoms were expected in the fall, yet were included in the spring standings. The League's facebook page is getting some activity finally after two and a half years (since the League's first match perhaps). Among the new posts is a press release from 2014. https://www.facebook.com/AmericanSoccerLeague
for those who are the schedule junkies still among us: Matt Driver @HC_Matt_Driver Feb 18 ASL schedule out next week finalizing some stadium dates/issues
There are some games listed on the website, all broken into three-game weeks, regardless how many games are scheduled for that weekend. http://www.aslsoccer.org/schedule_results.asp?lstDivision=94
so Atlanta, New England and Long Island have folded...but they are still located on the team directory???
Philadelphia Fury @PhillyFuryASL 6h6 hours ago The Philly Atoms fell in a thrilling game 2-1 to last seasons semi finalist Mass Utd in a stadium pack opening game
And here I was wondering what a stadium pack was. Is it the latest box meal from Taco Bell, A group of young men chasing women, or dogs off the leash?
It's a different club. In fact, that's a very different club altogether. When Benidorm went bankrupt, two clubs tried to fill the void. The first was Sporting Benidorm, who were formed in 2011 by fans of CF Benidorm, and the other was an existing club called CF Pena Betica Benidorm, formed in 1995. The fans went with Sporting, who had just a first team. They absorbed Fundacion Benidorm's cantera and later changed their name to CD Benidorm, though I think the club's official name is longer and much more complicated, given the nature of the merger. They're doing OK now, they quickly got into Preferente Valenciana, which is one below Tercera, and they play in the old CF Benidorm stadium. The other side, Pena Betica, were a youth team affiliated to Levante, Valencia's second team. When CF Benidorm were falling apart, Pena picked up the cantera and then merged with/absorbed a couple of other junior clubs and renamed themselves Ciudad de Benidorm, which they style as C.F. Benidorm. They have a decent women's team and academy but the men's senior team is in 1st Regional, a level below CD Benidorm. Now, I found all this out in about 5 minutes using Google and the handy Google translate plugin.
Supposedly this will lead to a 32 team ASL.... The ASL is Growing! pic.twitter.com/MKMXfzQknw— Philadelphia Fury (@PhillyFuryASL) April 12, 2017
Press releases say "an innovative patented product designed to keep soccer socks in place without elastic material"...
