Depends on the nature of the U20 match. Friendly? No problem. U20 WC qualifier? Needs a switch.

The Crew waived Amro, who seems likely to return to Europe.

The 23-year-old American-born Egyptian arrived on loan from Real Betis in February in search of the playing time he wasn’t getting in Spain. He never found it, and it was time to move on.

Tarek had played a total of two minutes in one game, and he was frustrated, Crew SC coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter said after practice today.

Congrats to Amro -- he got his first senior Egypt cap in March, subbing in for 18' in a 3-0 friendly win over Togo. He's also started regularly at LB and CB for Enppi in the Egyptian Premier League.

He moved to Wadi Degla, another Cairo club, back in August.

In case you haven't been watching OCFC, he's played every minute for them this season so far.

I happened to be at their game on Saturday and watched him; he's a very imposing dude, big and strong. Didn't really try a lot of difficult passes that I recall. Had some trouble heading the ball with purpose -- sent some right back at the opponent in bad spots.

I thought the 6.5 he got here was a bit high:

But the first goal was on Bendik; Tarek hustled to get back into the play but it was kind of a moot point. On the second the play changed directions quickly and he didn't really have a good option.

I don't know if he was someone we should've looked at during the 2011 U20 cycle but he didn't jump out at me as someone who would've jumped right into the MNT pool. Mind you, that's based on one viewing on a game in the cold where most of his team didn't play particularly well.
