It's a lot of hats (and big ones at that) for a guy that's never, ever had a desk job before.

Don’t think he’s the head coach.

not sure. Seems pretty “head coachy”

"I am truly honored to be named the first Manager in San Diego Loyal history," Donovan said in a team release. "This is the right place, at the right time, with the right people for me to begin my managerial career.

To this day, I think Keano only gets this because Landon got the award named after him that year, because for me Donovan was hands-down the team MVP and best player in MLS that year:

    • LD lead the league in assists and chances created
    • LD was 7 times Galaxy MOTM, more than any other Galaxy player and tied for most MOTM performances in MLS that season
    • LD was 4 times player of the week, more than any other MLS player
    • LD was player of the month for August (Keane never earned POTM that season)
I think Keane gets it because of his best in MLS stats that season (something ridiculous like 20 G, 12 A, back before that was a common thing) but Donovan was better overall that year.

Those were the days! We were so lucky to have both of them. They were brilliant, and entertaining to boot.

Little did we know that it was going to be followed by the rust era.

I'm not sure "rust" is the substance I'd have used...

Scrolling through the cable guide, and what do you know, Ashley Cole is on Fuse, on the show Kickasso, about shoes. He was asked about his career and mentioned his former clubs.

Provider of world class custom hand-painted footwear and clothing. Hand-crafted art in Los Angeles, California.

They are making him a pair of cleats, they used blue and gold and an overall galaxy/starry theme to represent LAG.

    Cool, the entire segment:

Pete Vagenas was hired as the Technical Director for a Chinese Super League club. That is . . . unexpected.

Methinks we need to arrange some player trades with Shijiazhuang Everbright.

And in more alumni news there are many, many Galaxy players on the Hall of Fame ballot:

Former U.S. women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo is among the first-time eligible players on the ballot for the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Solo, dismissed from the team following the 2016 Olympics, joins fellow U.S. national team members Brad Davis, Whitney Engen, Herculez Gomez and Clarence Goodson among 14 players first-time eligible players on the 42-person ballot.

Former MLS players Mike Magee, Carlos Ruiz, Nat Borchers, Conor Casey, Justin Mapp, Jamison Olave and Robbie Rogers also are on the ballot for for the first time, as are Women's Professional Soccer league players Jen Buczkowski and Kelly Smith.
    ..
LA Galaxy President Chris Klein, who played for the U.S. and in Major League Soccer, and former national team defender Kate Markgraf, currently general manager of the U.S. women's national team, are among six players in their final year of eligibility along with ex-U.S. forward Clint Mathis.

A player must appear on two-thirds of the ballots to gain election. Among the holdovers are LA Galaxy star David Beckham, current U.S. national team coach Gregg Berhalter, U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra, defender Steve Cherundolo and New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry.
I hope Mathis makes it in this final year of eligibility. He wasn't a star at the top of the game for a long time but what he did in a short time meant the world for the growth of soccer in the US. Not only did he help us get into the 2002 WC, including a crucial assist to Josh Wolff for a much needed late 2-1 win against Costa Rica, but w/o his absolutely amazing "goal of the year" against SK we don't make it out of the group, the "Dos a Cero" run of dominance against our Southern neighbors doesn't exist and a billion people don't see Donovan get robbed of a handball call against Germany in the WC Quarterfinals. I remember what a big deal Mathis' goal was at the time, to the point he's going on Letterman and kicking from the roof of the CBS building into a goal on top of another Manhattan building. Great times!

It's also Robbie Rogers' last chance. A true pioneer of courage in sports. Go Robbie!

And of course the Hall of Fame is getting their one shot to be allowed in by Mike Magee. Hopefully the mighty Magee is merciful with them.

Btw, I misread the announcement - this is Roger's first time on the ballot, not his last.
