The answer, it turns out, is no:

According to Wikipedia, it's a loan (but who knows really). FC Juarez is a new team in Ascenso MX. Hernandez played for the defunct Indios de Juarez some years ago before leaving for Monterrey.

He is from El Paso, so I'm assuming he'll live in El Paso and cross the border every day. Is Juarez in division 2? Or 1?

Pretty sure it's just a loan.

Would have preferred MLS over that move. I've done immigration work on the El Paso/Juarez border. Ive found El Paso to be a cool little city, but Juarez...ummmm no thank you

Doing a lot defensive work on the left side, for Juarez.

Played 78 mins for Juarez. I think he spent most of the game chasing the ball and trying to win it back for Juarez.

Alonso is loaned again to FC Juarez for 2016-17. He's in the middle of the back row:

Interestingly, he faced off against Benji Joya in the Juarez-Necaxa Ascenco Final. Alonso played 45 minutes in the second leg (Benji did not appear) as Necaxa won and got promoted to Liga MX.

For an attacking player, his production numbers are just bad. There is no getting around it.

    In League Play

0 goals in 553 Ascenso minutes last year for Juarez

0 goals in 120 Liga Mx minutes for Monterrey over 3 years

0 goals in 43 Ascenso minutes for Indios

    In Copa Mx

In the Copa Mx, he's fared a little bit better scoring 1 goal in 1274 minutes (over 20 games)

His one professional goal came while playing for Monterrey in the Copa Mx on August 28, 2014 against San Luis.

In his total club career at all levels, that's 1 goal in 1990 minutes of action over 46 professional games.

He is more of a play maker than a goal scorer

At least he is scoring again. He is more of an attacking mid than a striker.

Alonso Hernandez finished the season as the leading scorer in the league.
According to sources in Dallas, he is going to trial at FC Dallas.

They don't really need another forward.....................Urruti, Colman, Akindele, etc.

Could be a sign & send to OKC.

During the past winter, Hernandez somehow became the king of the Mexican third tier.

He has had a lot of experience coming off the bench and not scoring for Indios, Monterrey, and Juarez. In 2016-17, he returned to Monterrey and played for their third tier affiliate.

The 2016 Apertura was typical for him - 1 start, 10 sub appearances, 230 minutes, 0 goals.

Then in the 2017 Clausura - 13 starts, 1 sub appearance, 15 goals. He has three goals in his first two games in the 2017 Apertura.

Perhaps he's turned a corner. You'd think an Ascenso MX club could use him, at least.
