Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East I know I should be politically correct and all but what with today's news coming out about PSV being in accute financial trouble (they're renegotiating sponsorship deals and are trying to get Philips to up their investment) I can't help but smile. That's also what the thread title is about: we're quite literally the only financially healthy club in the Dutch league now. So even if we don't win the league this season, we'll still be the moral champions!
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East what do you think FC Twente's chance in this first knock out round of the Europa League?
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East Very small as as per bloody usual we got the worst draw possible.
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East Don't they have Rubin Kazan? That is pretty deep into Russia if I am not mistaken, they play good defensive football.
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East Yeh and we're playing them at the coldest time of the year - brilliant. When Barcelona was playing them last year (I think) Guardiola said their main mission was to get the team off the pitch without frozen limbs. Anyway some news: Twente have signed a cooperation agreement with Manchester United. The latter have a youth academy in South America but it's difficult in England to get a work permit for South American youngsters. That's where Twente comes in.
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East So they come to Twente and then on to that club eventually?
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East The one good thing getting them in this first knockout round is they along with many of the Russian clubs might be rusty as they will still be in preseason mode getting ready to start their new season. Does Twente start off away from home?
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East Yes. I don't mind. We won the league last season with two on-loan premiership players from Chelsea (Stoch, Rajkovic). As long as it's just a couple I'm fine with it. They're also talking about some class of 'commercial partnership'. I've no idea what that would entail.
Re: All red except for our bank account: FC Twente Pride of the East Whenever I see players that are eventually going to Chelsea or Man U, I will just act in denial, put my hands to my ears and make noises like I am not listening.
So he's going to be depth and possibly playing in non-league matches. Interesting loan in that case as he'll basically be in the same boat he's been in at Milan..
He hasn't been there one minute and pre-judging. We shall see. I would say he has to earn any minutes first. He wouldn't go into any club and just be given any minutes no matter who they had on their squad in his position.
If he gets back to the form he was in during the Confed Cup he's going to be a very valuable addition indeed.
Seeing that he hasn't played in what, over a year? it's unrealistic to expect him to start league games for Twente immediately. We're still in Europe and in the domestic cup though so he'll get his chances time all right. If he's good enough he'll play, that's the bottom line. Last season Twente had Stoch and Rajkovic on loan from Chelsea. Stoch won a starting place, Rajko did not. The point being that it will all be down to how good Onyewu really is.
By the way, the players we've had on loan over the years all tend to increase in value and stature. Following his successful season with Twente, Chelsea sold Stoch to I believe Fenerbahce. PSV loaned out Aisatti to Twente and subsequently sold him to Ajax. We loaned Mihaylov from Liverpool and subsequently signed him - he's now Bulgaria's and our first goalkeeper. If players have quality, Twente does get it out of them. AC Milan probably knows that, as does ManU who've just signed a collaboration agreement with us to stall their South American talents with us.
It could be fasster than anyone thinks that Gooch enters the pitch, seeing the strange things Douglas is doing lately on the pitch as the last act in the friendly in Spain.
Are these the strange things that made UEFA include him as the only Dutch league player in the UEFA team of the year?
