That really depends on if this is an outlier, because Keilban is a shit agent, or Mendez didn't care and just wanted to go. If other guys like Booth, Ferri, Cappis, etc are making more then the pipeline will continue. Two bad deals out of 20+ won't shut down the exodus, regardless of how much MLS plays. That's especially true in light of DCU jerking Durkin around and Carleton floundering on the bench. More money doesn't mean MLS is an ideal situation either.
That’s nuts. It’s barely believable. Not saying it isn’t true but still barely believable. Must be some pretty intense increase come start of next season?
Sounds like his agent got him jobbed but if he plays well he can get out of it quickly and get a substantial raise. Bundesliga teams seem very good at reworking contracts when players move up in levels. I guess the silver lining is he's got an incredible amount of incentive to improve. The bad is Kleiban really looks bad here and his brother doesn't look much better. Without access to the Galaxy pipeling they are in limbo. Do they start another academy in LA where the goal is honest and they tell every kid and parent that they are going to try and get them into Europe on super low initial contracts? Would seem hard to compete with the two MLS LA goliaths who can offer similar training and more money.
I guess you can be sold on a true meritocracy I.e if you’re a super talent prove it for three months at this amount and then you’ll get paid. Pretty classic in many performance related positions. Just seems odd if you had any kind of leverage AT ALL you could get a better deal.
3:1 win over Bayern Munich. Full 90 for Mendez. 🙁Die #FCBU19 verliert mit 1:3 gegen den SC Freiburg. #FCBayernCampus pic.twitter.com/1mRYdpdzMh— FC Bayern Campus (@fcbayerncampus) April 18, 2019
https://streamable.com/0py32 Highlights of Mendez v the Bayern U19s last week. It's not an all-touches video, just because I'm too lazy to cut all the relatively straightforward moments. But for a sense of the flow of the game, the first 20 minutes were dominated by Bayern and Mendez didn't look terribly sharp. Around the 20th minute Mendez and the rest of Freiburg seized control of the game. Mendez was (no exaggeration) flawless on the ball from 20' to 90'. A lot of that was simple passing but that's one of the things that's exciting about his game: not only is he capable of the spectacular, but he also plays quickly and simply the majority of the time. Two other Americans were involved in this game. Taylor Booth played the first 25 minutes before coming off with a knock, in the midfield for Bayern. Didn't really stick out to me, tbh. His replacement was Chris Richards, who slid in at CB and sent one of the CBs into midfield to replace Booth. Richards was mostly solid but a little loose on the ball on two or three occasions.
scored once in a 3-2 loss to a Maurice Malone free Augsburg. That was also the last game of the season for U19 Sud/Sudwest. ends up with 3 goals in 12 games for Freiburg U19 playing 855 min.
🔥 🔥 🔥 Moments ago @aleexm21 drops this on Augsburg. 😲 #quality A fitting end to the @scfreiburg U19 season as he heads off to the U20 World Cup. The #USMNT have a jewel. Good luck @RamosTab and @USYNT. Vamos con todo! 💪 pic.twitter.com/d3lGXsoIde— 3four3 (@3four3) May 11, 2019 Beauty
Well he's aging out of being U19 eligible, right? Presumably he'd go to first team preseason, but who knows from there. Their U23s play in the 4th division, but every Bundesliga treats their II team differently.
Wicked left foot. His lack of speed is a concern getting stuck in defensively, but we’ve been craving a midfielder with his creativity for what seems like forever. His shimmy in midfield and bomb of a shot at the end of the first half was delicious. Great chance created out of nothing, we do t have many players in the pool that can create magic like that.
I don't even care if he gets stuck in, he's just got to stay engaged and be in the right position...there were times, especially in the 2nd half, where he just shut it off when the US was defending. And allowed the ball to slide under his foot in the first half when the US was transitioning to what promised to be a very promising counter. All kind of expected from players still trying to break into a first team role...but it illustrates to me that as promising as Mendez is, he's got to progress his game if he wants to realize his potential. Dude's got skill for days.
Man, saw him live for the first time in that U-20 game. His shot is elite, maybe even the best in our pool. That alone has gotten him to Europe. Was disappointed with the rest of his game-- didn't influence much outside of a few long range bombs and his game seems predicated on getting the ball in spots and then ripping the seams off it (which he does breath-takingly). If he can get a little better and faster with decision making and tighten up his passing a bit more and get stuck in more, he'll be Bundisliga level without a doubt. I'd pay money just to watch the guy take free kicks and long shots
Would have to see more of his game. Had a good clipped pass over the top, but remember a few giveaways too
eh, he's a 00, which means last eligible U19 season is 2018-2019 season. He's not jumping ahead by a year, he's like any other 00 no longer eligible for U19. U19 is not about your age it's about your age group.
