He is currently with the Reserve team.

From what I understand, it is not impossible, but it is very difficult for Alan to make his debut with the first independent team. The season for him is not bad, he has been fairly regular with the reserve team, but considering that he will be 21 years old in 2 months and that the coach does not give minutes to reserve players, it would be better for him to obtain a loan in a team of a lower level. I see Alan's case very similar to that of Michael Hoyos. I hope he does better.

Surprised he didn't have his citizenship automatically:

Alan Soñora obtained Argentine citizenship this week. I #Independiente wanted to make him a contract, but that didn't happen because he was going to occupy quota (he was born in America). In the next few weeks, he would sign his bond with the Red.

Alan, who is 20 years old, is one of the pillars of the reserve team of Independiente and it is already spoken that is the hook of the future for the red team. With the same humility that characterizes his father and brother, Alan spoke with MARCA about the goals he has in football.

"My goal is to debut in the First Division, it's something that is talked about and I hope it happens," said Soñora, adding, "Independiente is one of the biggest clubs in Argentina, it forces you to win, so going to the first team motivates me a lot. . "

Soñora has already demonstrated what she brings to the court. The left-hander has good punch, exhibited in the goals of free kick that he has gotten, he reads the game well, he has good vision, he passes between the lines, he avoids the friction, making him one of the great promises of the club.

Not that he would likely qualify for a work permit:

He wouldn't qualify for a work permit. He has 0 resume to win one on an appeal and has no EU passport.

    Meaning this report is hogwash.

Argi press is reporting allegations made by Chiche Soñora that Alan left a Boca due to an ongoing feud with Rolando Schiavo, the manager of the Boca reserves. He said the bad blood goes back to the treatment Joel allegedly received when he left Boca for a Stuttgart. Chiche says “I wouldn’t sit down and have a cup of coffee with Schiavo.”

He also claimed that Independiente looked at Alan for only half an hour before deciding to sign him.

Also revealed in a linked article is the tidbit that Alan was signed to a two year contract with a USD 15 M release clause.

It was reported by a club rep on the Radio Show “De la Cuna al infierno” that Sheffield formally requested that Alan be allowed a 20 day trial at the club.

It's interesting to read what his father says about him, and right here he states something I had been suspecting for a while:

"Some players develop early and make their first-team debut at 17, but his physical development was slow and now he's close."

Who was the last South American based player to be capped for the US? I know Joel made our U20 team, but I'm blanking on names at the senior level

Him, and Joe-Max Moore. They both joined Emelec together on a one-month loan in late '97.
