Hahahahaha. Really? Ciccerone is the only player of much quality on that team, and he doesn't do much when starved of service (like most people, TBF).
Buffalo fans... At least their college got to play for something. They have a good NPSL team that underachieves annually.
Let's put it this way: had Akron lost that game, I would have been hopeful for an at-large spot but I wouldn't have been expecting one nor asking for one. Akron wasn't good enough without the auto- bid this year. Other years, sure.
Two questions: When was the last time a team besides Akron won the MAC? And when was the last time the MAC had more than one team in the NCAA Tournament. Not taking anything away from Akron, just curious.
To be fair, Coach Embick was one of the first on Twitter to put a word about the selection committee giving UB a "fair look." Now, one can easily say he's doing this to try to get the MAC another team in the tournament.
2011. Zips lost tournament at home to WMU. Zips still invited at large. Beat Northwestern at home, beat SMU away, lost away to eventual runner up Charlotte. This is all from my feeble memory, so it needs corroborating.
Nick Hinds gets some well-deserved love. He is not a defender; he is a mid-fielder. Who knew? I love it when my coach proves smarter than me. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20161114gwtzsq
Akron 2-0 Villanova Really was not that close. Nick Hinds with another brace. Darlington Nagbe in attendance. Love that guy. How far a drive is Bloomington? 5 hours? And who was that TYeagley character standing on the hill?
Get your point; therein lies the grim humor. Both JLewis and NHinds hail from Plantation FL. They sort of came as a package deal. Both appear to be fine young men. In my estimation, both will play in the MLS one day. Quite a story, actually. TDS (or somebody) should dig into this angle. Zips Nation LOVES these guys!!⚽️❤️‼️
Yeah, both of these guys have adjusted well and haven't played "like freshmen" in some time. Lewis has been scary dangerous lately.
Indiana 1-0 Akron This was a sloppily played match, but entertaining nonetheless. Zips were sleepwalking through portions of the contest.
I mentioned this in the 2nd round thread...but, sorry Zips fans, I just don't see Embick taking the team higher. I don't know what it is, but just don't see him having the same effect that Lolla or Porter had. Hope I'm wrong. I like his story of climbing the ladder. Just can't see it getting further.
Well, Zips went to the College Cup just last year. Why is Embick not the man for the job? Please explain.
