A much improved year was 2015, with Zips returning to elite status. We intend to remain a perennial contender. Much success was enjoyed, but the ultimate goal was not realized. We are not satisfied with anything short of a championship. That said, going to the College Cup after beginning the season unranked must be considered a good year, by any reckoning. Congratulations to Coach Jared Embick and his staff. The future looks bright.

@ Richmond Laryea: (It is OK for you to read these forums now.) Good Luck, Richie! We are extremely proud of you! Your contribution to Zips Soccer will not be forgotten, and we shall root for you in the pros. Zips Nation have long memories, and we are fanatically loyal! You wore the hallowed #6 shirt well! We salute you!

I still don't get all the general Portland shirts I see around - I mean, we do have a team within a reasonable distance whose scouts still regularly pop up during the season. That said, a #6 Akron shirt has become even more iconic. May you avoid that hot mess that is TFC and their ownership group, Richie.
Zarek Valentin to re-unite with Caleb Porter et al. “With Zarek there are a lot of options with regards to where he could play,” said Porter. “With the (U.S.) 23s, he played for me left back even though he’s right-footed. He’s technical, he’s two-footed, so he’s clean with both feet. He’s been playing right back, so he needs to fill in there. I still think he can, in a pinch, play center back as well.” http://sbisoccer.com/2016/01/versatility-one-of-key-reasons-for-timbers-acquisition-of-valentin
Richmond Laryea drafted #7 overall to Orlando City, re-uniting him with former Sigma FC teammate, and MLS 2015 ROTY, Cyle Larin..
The rumour is that Sigma FC is going to be the youth academy for the Hamilton club in the new Canadian professional soccer league that is set to launch in 2017 or 2018. That might be the end of the relationship for Akron, as the kids from Sigma will finally have a professional pathway.
Very disappointed that Akron will not host Sigma FC this Spring. 2016 Akron Men's Soccer Spring ScheduleFri., March 18 - vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds/Notre Dame College, FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field, 6/8 p.m. Sat., April 9 - vs. Cleveland State/Slippery Rock, FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field, 6/8 p.m. Sat., April 16 – vs. Wright State/Pittsburgh, FirstEnergy Stadium - Cub Cadet Field, 1/4 p.m. Sun., April 24 – at Columbus Crew (Closed Scrimmage) – Columbus, Ohio 11 a.m. Sun., May 1 – at FC Cincinnati (USL)/vs. Dayton Dynamo (NPSL), Cincinnati, Ohio 1/6 p.m.
Any idea who this VSC from Toronto is? They seem like a U-18 side. Not too bad, but no way to match Akron.
Vaughan plays in the new League 1 Ontario. I would imagine they would be sending a higher level team, since they know it's Akron -- and, Akron would request a higher level team since that's what they need. They also sponsor an OPDL team, not sure of the level these teams can get age-wise. Maybe an older OPDL team or trialists?
Akron played mostly bench against Vaughn Soccer Club. The match was closer than the 4-0 score would indicate, but VSC kept getting players ejected and/or dismissed (not the same thing).
Adam Najem is returning to Akron for his last year of NCAA eligibility. There. The proverbial cat is out of the bag.
