TODAY Nigeria 1 - Gambia 0 South Africa 1 - Lesotho 0 Kenya 2 - Equatorial Guinea 1 Ivory Coast 2 - Mali 2 Zimbabwe 1 - Zambia 0 Cameroon 5 - Congo 0 Algeria 3 - Ethiopia 1
...remind me why EqG is still playing matches again... Other than that, no real surprises I guess, though some slim margins for Nigeria and SAfrica.
FIFA has banned them from qualifying for the World Cup, but CAF removed their ban so they can participate in the African Cup of Nations. So if they qualify for the finals, the can still win the Cup of Nations, just not qualify for the World Cup.
Ghana is likely to lose the hosting Rights for the 2018 Africa Women's Cup of Nations as government intends to dissolve the Ghana Football Association for corrupt practices @JWsports1 @eunicebeckmann @AnnOdong @NBSports_Report @sports_mvt pic.twitter.com/pfHOUZLkVP— Ghanasportsonline.com (@Ghanasport) June 7, 2018
Well, quite sad to say the least. Makes you wonder if African women's football will ever manage to catch up with the rest of the world.
TODAY Cameroon 5 - Congo 0 Cameroon advances on 10-0 aggr. Equatorial Guinea 2 - Kenya 0 Equatorial Guinea advances on 3-2 aggr.
so will Ghana also be banned from participating in the tournament? CAF would likely select the best runner-up from round 2.
Equatorial Guinea's two goals came in stoppage time. Kenya must feel terrible to have it in their hands up until the final extra minutes.
TODAY Algeria 3 - Ethiopia 2 Algeria advances on 6-3 aggr. Mali 0 - Ivory Coast 0 Aggr. tied 2-2, Mali advances on away goals rule South Africa 6 - Lesotho 0 South Africa advances on 7-0 aggr. Zambia 2 - Zimbabwe 1 Aggr. tied 2-2, Zambia advances on away goals rule 6 countries advancing: Zambia, South Africa, Mali, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon. if Ghana is banned from participating, probably either Zimbabwe or Ivory Coast gets the invite.
What is CAF likely to do if they need an 8th team for the tournament? Just invite someone? Doesn't seem fair on other teams who had harder qualifying games. Or they could make a non-qualifier the host? - kingfut.com/2018/06/11/final-slate-of-teams-for-african-womens-cup-of-nations-2018-confirmed (Archived) Another effect of the Ghana FA situation:
Yeah, having Equatorial Guinea allowed to compete was bad enough but now... Ghana has time untill November to establish their new FA (that FIFA and CAF will aprove) or else new host will be chosen. My vote goes for Kenia Other option is indeed having Equatorial Guinea as hosts (..and that way Kenia will play in tournament as well )
The new hosts will likely be South Africa or Nigeria as they can probably throw one together quickly. The 8th participant would be either Ivory Coast or Zimbabwe(best runner-up_
Ghana likely to be striped of hosting 2018 women's championship. https://mobile.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHo...ht-to-host-Africa-Women-s-Championship-661997
@toad455 , do you think we should put the COSAFA Women's Cup in this thread? It's a separate tournament, but this year it's part of the 'build-up' for some AWCON teams, so might be better than making a whole new thread. And South Africa are hosting it, eep... Just let me know what you'd prefer and I'll start gathering the flag jpegs. There doesn't seem to be a draw for the Cosafa yet. Start date is variously given as either 25 Aug., 26 Aug., 6 Sep., or some other day
All I could find about the tournament is that South Africa is hosting and that Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana are participating. Haven't found out about any other nations participating.

This is how they're banned from the 2019 WWC & 2020 Olympics. Equatorial Guinea fielded an ineligible player in 2016. Mali won the complaint and advanced to the 2016 Finals and Equatorial Guinea was then banned. https://web.archive.org/web/2016081.../News/NewsDetails?id=cGoku18JfIkCzfbaiaTs8g==
