I ask because I haven't heard of the senior members getting called up again so soon after the AFC championship, and Australia has sent its U20 team to the tournament for the previous three editions.
I can see that this torunament is obviously meant for South-eastern Asia, but what exactly AFF stands for? Also, if Australia will really send their U-20 team, but Thailandia and Vietnam will send the Senior teams that recently battled in Asian Cup instead, I can see Thailand bringing home this title: they have almost beaten Aussie Senior Team in the semifinal of Asian Cup, so they could very well beat their U-20 team!
ASEAN Football Federation. Acronym within an acronym! I think Thailand's draw with the senior Australia side was more a sign of mismanagement from the Aussies (also recall the Portugal results) than strength from the Thais... That said, Thailand has won the AFF Championship the past two tournaments in a row. The Aussie U20 side has never placed higher than 2nd (though the one time the senior team participated, they won the tournament with a +20GD and only one goal against).
That's why I couldn't get it! Acronyms are the best way to hide info. Well, after all, as I said multiple times, Australia shouldn't belong to South-Eastern Asia much more than they belong to Asia in general...
I'm not sure about friendlies, but these are the only matches I can easily find between the two teams: 2008 OG: 2-2 draw 2011 WC: 2-1 JPN 2013 exhb: 1-1 draw An aggregate of 5-4 over three legs suggests, to me, two very even teams! Japan better be ready to hand that Asian crown to New Zealand. X-D
No... Not yet - https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/friendlies-thread.2013659/page-25#post-36722180 I get the impression New Zealand isn't likely to join the AFC, even though it would improve the standard of play. The main reason to join is the NZ men's present inability to reach the World Cup, but that won't matter in future: Chunk of cash, yes that sounds good thanks. Even merging the whole OFC into the AFC is talked about, but it would make the confederation huge geographically - from the Middle East to the middle of the Pacific. Could it be an issue, if teams were going to the other side of the world just for qualifiers? We already get games like Jordan v Philippines (9,000km apart). ANYWAY, this tournament is 11 days away -10:23:07:44 [Fake countdown clock is broken]

It looks like the (whole?) tournament is streaming here: - https://mycujoo.tv/competitions/aff-womens-championship Coming up, Cambodia v Timor Leste (12:00 GMT). Myanmar v Australia ended 0-7.
Cambodian media have picked up the story today: - https://www.phnompenhpost.com/sport/cambodian-women-down-timor-leste-12-0 (Archived) - https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50506815/kingdoms-girls-rout-timor/ On Sunday, it was Myanmar 4 Philippines 0 and goalless between Singapore and Indonesia. Right now, Timor Leste are losing to Thailand. Next game is Cambodia v Malaysia (Monday 12:00 GMT).
Well, after their heroics vs Timor-Leste, it looks like it's not going so good for Cambodian girls...
Oh man, Australia v Cambodia is a mismatch, 8-0 at half time (Live on https://mycujoo.tv/video/pssi-tv?id=21172) Malaysia v Thailand is later (12:00 GMT). It's surprising that almost none of these games are close - surely some pairs of teams would be evenly matched? But only one game has been decided by less than 3 goals, the Indonesia v Singapore 0-0. And the losing teams have only scored one goal so far. Last time there were a few close games at the previous 8-team tournament, but it also had a 20-0 for Australia over Timor Leste.
