China qualify for AFC U-16 Championship
    2011-09-19 14:00:00

Pyongyang: China qualified for the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship after finishing second behind defending champions DPR Korea following the conclusion of their qualifying tournament at the weekend.

China had earlier beaten Singapore, Malaysia and Timor Leste to secure qualification alongside the tournament hosts with a game to spare.

But on Sunday, DPR Korea maintained their 100% record in Group E as Ri Kwang-song scored two minutes into second half stoppage time at Kim II Sung Stadium.

China had began the five team qualifying tournament with a 3-1 win over Malaysia on September 8 thanks to goals from Wang Jinxian, Zhang Xiuwei and Chen Kerui.

Wang and Zhang, along with Li Xiaoming, were again on target in the 3-1 win over Singapore two days later.

And Wang netted his third goal in as many games as China qualified with a game to spare as Liu Hao also scored in the 2-0 in over Timor Leste last Thursday.
