Im in San Dieg for vacation, and am considering swinging down to Tijuana for tomorrow nights Xolos match. Any advice for someone who has never attended a match in Tijuana?

More specifically: is it easy to buy tickets at the gate? where should we park? best places to sit in the stadium? suggestions for pre or post game food or drinks?

    thanks in advance

most people have stated they take a shuttle from san diego to the stadium and leave the car in the US. let me see if i can rehash some of those threads.

Wish I had seen this early, you could have gone with us. Although I'm pretty sure it was totally sold out as Chivas was in town.

Does anyone have information about the shuttle from San Diego to Estadio Caliente? I would like to go to a match myself this season, hopefully.

Went down to TJ recently, for the first time in over a decade, and decided I'm ready to check out some Xolos games.
How many of you guys go? Have any tips? How do you get your tickets? Do you ever go with a group?

    Thanks in advance!

Xolos has their own American (gringo :x3:) support group that goes down there for the games....You can probably get in touch with them through their facebook page.

You can find tickets the day of the game through scalpers outside of the stadium...but they are a bit more expensive.

If a league game has available tickets you can usually go down on Wednesday, possibly Tuesday, and get them from the box office. Closes at 7pm I think.

This season there will be plenty of games with tickets available.

Just saw tickets for Friday's game against Chiapas are on sale.

It is possible to buy tickets online through ticketmaster.com.mx
If you don't have a Mexican bank card you just have to choose the "Will Call - International" option and then you can pick up your tickets on match day at the stadium using the same card. You should probably let your bank know that you are making an international purchase though so the sale doesn't get blocked as possible fraud.

I've done this several times for playoff games, CL games, etc.

Games the last few seasons have all been on Fridays @ 7:30.
Lately the traffic driving back across the border is the biggest pain in the ass, seriously some of the worst I've seen in years.

I suggest if you go to a game to park on the US side and walk across to the cabbie shelter and take a cab. There's also a shuttle that goes to and from the stadium. I've never been able to figure out it's schedule, which is too bad because it's cheap and you can drink on there with the Xolos fans.

Cab will be about $10USD. If you have a small enough party you can also try splitting the cab with others heading to the game.

Yes, from the cabbie shelter. If it's there, jump on. I don't know the schedule though, and the cabbies I've asked have been like "don't talk to me unless you want to hire me."

    Also, this: http://blog.uber.com/TijuanaFreeRides

EDIT: looks like the free rides ended last Friday. Still... there's Uber in TJ. Sounds like an adventure! :)

I been in Tj for about 10 months now, I have a Xolo pass if anyone has questions in regards to the to and from pm me or post here.

Fastest way is to park on the SD side walk across to Tj and take a cab to the stadium. Always ask how much it is in pesos; shouldn't be more than 120 which is $10 usd.

There are a few scalpers on game day. The closer it is to game time the more they charge. Let the game start...2 minutes later they sell under face value.

One of the local scams is to make fake tickets and your caught with an expensive bookmark. Most of the guys are willing to let you pay after you get in, through the side fence. ( I prefer to deal with these guys)

Be AWARE of anyone letting you have or rent their XOLO pass. If your american don't do it...just a lame excuse to get your info and then make BS passports ect. Normally they charge like $40 USD and want an I.D. as collateral so they get their pass back.

If your in downtown walking around you can take a Route Taxi or bus to the Stadium the taxi cost $13.50 pesos the Red Taxis can be found on 5th st and Constituion (5ta y constitucion) Green and yellow bus 6th and constitution (6ta y constitucion) charges $10 pesos
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your short on cash you can always catch the game at a bar on Revolucion or la Sexta...I suggest "El Copeo" as its a newer club and always gets pack...plus the eye candy is nice.

To eat lets keep with the Xolo theme; try eating at Xolo Tacos it's on the same blvd as the stadium...they serve Sinaloa style tacos (without the cartel influence) hahaha they were on the Food Network a while back.

Seconded on "El Copeo" on Revolution. Lots of TV's, passable food, and free Wi-Fi.

If y'all in SoCal are trying to figure out a game to go to then consider October 17 against Querétaro. It looks like Ronaldinho is signing with them today. Plus they have the legendary Sinha and... wait for it... Jonathan Bornstein! ;)

    Here's a little protip for food :

Tijuana has some of the best street food in Mexico. Try foodgarden for a Singaporean style food court that serves tacos, seafood and other types of cuisine. tacos kokopelli for tacos if youre into seafood and tortas mobile wash/tortas turco for carne asada/steak tortas.

I don't know. They shut down the taxi shelter that the shuttle use to run from and now the new taxi shelter is in a different location closer to the new Mexico border entrance. It's not even really a taxi shelter anymore, just a street with a U turn.

I'd say the best bet is to try and share a cab with others. Or jump in one of the minivans that head out that way if you don't mind making a bunch of stops.

Alternatively, TJ just put in a new mass transit system of buses with their own dedicated stations. But I haven't figured out how to use it to get to the stadium yet.

Just went to my first match on Saturday, May 6 and thought I would share my experience. Parked at the border and took Uber which is so cheap it is almost like stealing. I ended up getting a room at the Tijuana Marriott on May 5 because the game was supposed to be that night, which is walking distance to the stadium. Border to hotel was like $3 through Uber. Highly recommend it. On the morning of the 6th we took an Uber to Rosarito Beach which was 45 minutes away. It was $8. Unreal.

The Marriott was great. Got an employee rate of $59 a night through a family member. Veracruz was staying there and we met players, took pics ect. Walked to a great restaurant called Los Arcos for some amazing seafood. Went to Caliente Casino. Good times.

Game was great. They sell some great, cheap merch outside the stadium. It all looks bootleg, but it is like really nice bootleg haha. Once inside you can get a 24 oz Bud Light for $3. Guys in yellow shirts will come snag you a refill.

All in all it was a great trip. People were super friendly. Atmosphere was great. I know TJ is a rough town and all, but damn if we didn't have just a great experience. Everyone I know thinks I am crazy for going, but I am so glad I did.
