Another bigsoccer user pointed me toward this guy, but since they didn't post it themselves I'll leave them anonymous unless they'd like to take credit, which I would welcome. Dozens of database sites and Wikipedia say Henley, a '94 defender who has seem some first-team time with Rovers, was born in Tennessee. However -- this isn't mentioned anywhere on Rovers' site that I could find. http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10303~56258,00.html And he has played for Wales, which also doesn't mention his birthplace: http://www.faw.org.uk/PlayerDisplay...4&season=11/12&seasonl=2011/2012&Playertype=2 On Twitter, someone asked him "Hi Adam, I heard you were born in the USA (like the song). Was wondering how you qualified for Wales" and while he did not specifically confirm that, he did not correct the questioner and said he qualified for Wales through his mother.
http://www.skysports.com/football/player/0,,11676_459663,00.html. This also says born in usa. England seemed to be low on half-american youth players. They are starting to turn up, its just unfortunate they are alrealdy involved with other national teams. This one is a speedy left/right fullback. He has yet to appear for wales u-21 maybe with a nice usa Recruitment he will consider switching.
Not to mention that even with Wales good young guns, there chance of making it to a world cup are slim.
Wait, let me get this straight, he's a 94, either side fullback, AND he's seen first team time for a premier league side? Cap him now!!!
not to mention he looks 110% African-American/ Black American..................................Nothing like Gareth Bale......
Ian Darke just said that Henley was born in Knoxville and perhaps Klinnsi is watching the match. Macca echoed the comment.
Darkes raving about him, even said if Klinsi didn't know about him he would after this game. Ihope someone from USSF's higher ups are awake to watch this game.
I wouldn't say "raving" but yeah apparently he's American and he's doing pretty well. I think they said this is his second "Big Game" in the Premiership. The first being against Liverpool I think.
It'd be nice to have that speed. I think right now Henley is showing that he at least deserves a call up in February to show the US is interested, even if he doesn't get off the bench. Also, it seems he would easily be able to handle Antigua and Barbuda, if Klinsi wants to play him on June 8th.
If he were to play for the US, he would need to file his one-time switch with FIFA. The odds are probably under 50-50 he plays for the US
Why would he need to do that. He's never played for the Welsh senior squad and he's a natural born citizen of the US.
He's probably played in youth national team tournaments like Euro U19s which would cap tie him to Wales. Edit: Played for Wales U19s in Euro U19 qualifiers http://www.uefa.com/under19/season=2012/matches/round=2000213/match=2004949/index.html
I thought youth tournaments no longer captie. Or is it that they do but you're still allowed to make a switch with the proper paperwork.
If he had played for the senior squad in a non-friendly, then he couldn't switch at all. One-time switches are for players who play for one team as a youth, and want to play for another as a senior player. The Welsh seem more worried that he'll play for Capello (he grew up in NW England) than about Klinsmann.
Oh, well that lowers our chances, but not overwhelmingly. He US still has one piece to persuade him with that he may not get in Wales, which is the opportunity to play in multiple WCs.
Wales have risen 70 places in the FIFA rankings this year and have a very nice WC2014 qualification group so there is plenty of optimism there.
Wales is pretty stacked at leftback, with Swansea's Neil Taylor and Forest's Gunter as options. Gareth Bale can of course slot in there when Wales needs a wingback on the left side. I may be wrong about this, but I think Bale actually normally plays fullback for Wales, as opposed to left wing.
