So, it seems like an era in Mexican futbol has come to an end. Chicharito, Vela, DS bros, Layun, Moreno, Guardado, Peralta will be past their age come the 2022 world cup.

Who do you guys think will be an important part of our squad leading up to the next world cup? I think this is going to be a very interesting transition period considering the players above have basically been the core of this team the past two cycles.

Since some of these players still have a few more good years in them (maybe 1-2?), will the new seleccion manager still highly integrate them into the squad? or will he slowly phase them out? 4 years is a long time..

I'm excited that defensively speaking, Nestor Araujo and Salcedo, who've been very good for our team are going to be in their prime. If they both keep it up, I see them possibly being the core of our defense. Lozano should be killing it at this time. Raul Jimenez will be 31 (interesting to see how he'll play out). Diego reyes will be 29. Could Herrera and Fabian still make it at 32? Ochoa at 36? we'll see..

In which direction do you guys think the squad will transition into these next 4 years? Players you expect to break into the starting line up?

I'm thankful for everything our "golden gen" has done for us, but I think it's time for a new mentality and a fresh start for our team as well.
    Here's to a new generation!

    9) Aquino

    Forwards

The striker situation looks sad af. As much we many don't want Peralta on the team, with his retirement that just leaves Chicharito and Raul. We literally don't have any other striker worth a damn.

Nah, I'd prefer Guti or Pocho Guzman.

I hope Pocho recovers this season, the guy was scoring goals left and right before his injury...

Yup. I think he would have been the alternate instead of Guti had he not gotten injured.

Or replace Montes with Alvarez. Since Alvarez already has WC experience.

Oribe is DONE! Thankfully he’s no longer going to be considered for the NT anymore

Raúl has shown lots of promise but has been a ghost for the most part on the NT

Chicharito better move to a club where he’ll have loads of playing time because his lack of playing time at West Ham has taken an effect on his game. He wasn’t totally terrible during this past WC but he doesn’t have that killer instinct he had from before. Having him a play a false 9 type of role didn’t help either

Our striker situation is pretty damn pathetic

Difficult for cheech or Raul or any striker we have to do much when the midfield doesn’t connect one pass with the forwards. But anyway here’s who I foresee making kt
Cual Golden Generation, el unico que jugo ahora fue Vela. Los campeonatos juveniles no sirven de nada.

    Ochoa
    Salcedo
    Álvarez
    Gallardo
    Herrera
    Jimenez
    Chicharito
    Corona
    Lozano

Most concerning position is GK and Striker. Hugo Gonzalez is ok at best and Gudiño doesn't play. I can't name a young striker I've been impressed with either.

I would be down with calling in all Liga Mx players and fringe European players for friendlies. Let's let our main guys get playing time in Europe.

In the future I wouldn’t mine experimenting with false 9s. Playing with Lainez, Lozano and Corona in front. Three players that can attack with their feet.

We don’t need a striker to hold up the ball if we’re constantly moving.

I'll add some optimist to the conversation on strikers. There are two interesting young players too keep an eye on.

The first is Joao Maleck in Porto's youth team. He really excelled this past season, and maybe we can anticipate to see him in Porto B (where Diego Reyes spent much time) this upcoming season?

The second player is Roberto Alvarado. He netted a few goals in Toulon. He was recently purchased by Cruz Azul (I think from Necaxa?). He has the build of a number 9, and when Cruz Azul bought him they bought him as a striker. However, he played in a more attacking midfield role in Toulon. He has the build of a number 9 and the on the ball skills of an attacking mid. I will be watching these two quite closely.

Honestly, I would love to see Maleck get a loan to a Belgian or Dutch side. Govea made the most of his loan.

Time to phase out Talavera and Corona

Gudiño has actually been starting all of Chivas preseason friendlies, so it’s almost certain he’ll be starting. Good to keep an eye on him

Lajud actually had a good season with TJ this past Clausura. He deserves a look

Our goalie situation is rather slim but it’s a position we never had problems with since like the 1990s. We’ll be fine

I’m more concerned about our strikers. Hopefully Pulido remains free from injuries and starts playing like he did last year during Chivas’ championship run and some of the Toulon forwards get playing time with their clubs to further develop

I'm not too concerned with GK. Ochoa will still be our keeper for 2022, although it will certainly be his last. 36 year old keepers are not uncommon. I agree we should find replacements and subs for him, but I'm confident he will be there for 2022.

    • Peralta
    • Chicharito
    • Vela
    • Rafa

Why not Vela in a sub role provided he keeps good form?
