    Dear BigSoccer Members:

This message is a heads up that later this month, to celebrate Beckham's first games and the MLS All-Star Game, BigSoccer will debut an all new version of the site. The new BigSoccer (code name ideas welcome!) will be the most significant upgrade to BigSoccer in years.

A group of a dozen SuperMods and Mods have been testing the Alpha version of the site for the past several days. Feedback has been positive. The site will be moving to Beta in the middle of this week.

The forums will continue to work as they do now, with no reorganization and no new policies. But the site and the forums will have a new look and feel that is cleaner and easier to use.

Kicks will no longer be a standalone feature but will be integrated into creating a new thread: if you put a URL in, the system will automatically insert the link to the original source, just like Kicks now do. Additionally, all threads can be kicked, allowing users to sort threads by popularity, in addition to date, replies, etc. The Kicks formula, as you know, is a combination of kicks + buries + replies + some other criteria.

A new dynamic navigation will be revealed allowing you to quickly browse up and down through four levels of our content hierarchy.

The big change will occur on our homepage, making it useful and relevant to your daily use of BigSoccer. As you use the navigation tool, the homepage content will dynamically update based on where you are in the navigation (so you can have a Bayern homepage, or an MLS homepage).

All your favorite features will continue to exist. As change is sometimes overwhelming for some, we felt it was important to give you a heads up and not spring it on you. We will be giving more and more invited testers access to the beta site in the coming days, and we have urged them to share their positive feedback with you in this thread.

    BigSoccer - Share the Passion!

Would this have anything to do with why the 'Who's Online' function has vanished?

No - that was turned off temporarily due to the database errors being reported as we have high traffic right now.

I've spent the day playing on the new site. Right now, it's like playing with a toy boat and not having any water. There are only a handfull of us in there and we're simply starting threads, replying, testing, etc. I'm very excited to view the functionality once all the boards are loaded.

Like with anything new, it's going to take some getting used to. I'm already anticipating several BS users that will simply yell nay just because it's different. However, the interface is very similar and user friendly. As we go forward, please just remember that the owners of this site are making this change because they love this site and the community. They're not making this change to spite you! Be patient and we'll all look back and laugh at some of the mistakes we all made during these growing pains. And yes, I'm sure you'll read many messages like mine over the next few weeks - but at least mine was first!

Let the fun begin. Bring on BigBeckham.com*! :D

will there be truly a freedom of speech?

how bout kicks for posts too.. if alot of posters dont like or are offended by a post, kick it or bury it. so that way it aleviates the job of the mods...

All of this extra work just for Beckham. My goodness.

Oh well, no worries, they'll soon get bored of him when they realise that it takes a team to win titles and not individuals. The man is dead-ball specialist and that's about it.

But then again, Juan Pablo Angel..............................Ohhhhhhhh deeeeeeeeeear!!!

This is not a Beckham related change. It's just timed with the mid-season which is also his arrival.

Will we have a Beckham forum section?? With a Posh Spice sub forum? Put it in NSR, because that's what Beckham is these days.
