He's not "shit", but more of the "deck chair" variety. Did OK last night until he tired at the end. His "defending" in the 85th minute permitted Vancouver to get a header off the post. Just kept backing up and not challenging the player giving him plenty of space to put a nice cross into a dangerous area. Mora will be OK, the much bigger problems are RB and Brillant.
Rooney makes all of those guys better. They only get screwed if they can't find a way on the pitch -- even then, working with the guy in practice will force them to up their game.
I was watching Rooney after the game and he seemed (obviously, from my viewpoint several hundred feet away, I'm assuming a lot) to be very much of the building up/back-slapping I'm-one-of-you team players. I liked what I saw. he gave Durkin a long hug -- so maybe he has developed a relationship with some of the younger guys. I don't know, but my armchair psychologist says he's a good teammate. That's golden considering his bona fides.
Rooney has said and done all the right things so far. Glad to see him be just one of the guys atleast in public.
The offense has been a joy this season. The build up to Arriola's goal (the one that bounced off the keeper) was a thing of beauty to watch from a United team. Hope we get more of that.
We've seen flashes of that off and on all year, but usually coming out of a turnover off the high press. To see it as part of genuine possession buildup was fantastic. I think we will see a lot more, especially as Rooney gets more integrated. DC United's current first choice front 5 of Rooney, Asad, Acosta, Arriola, and Stieber will one of the best attacking groups they've had in years.
As long as he's on the field yes without him, same old, same old. Big plus is a good offense can help a poor defense by easing pressure, downside is the slackers in the back will rely on the guys in the front to fight their battles for them. When Rooney can give 100% for 90 things will click
Why not Canouse for Crognale? https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/07/19/who-are-top-5-most-valuable-players-summer-trade-market
So, trade a former youth international who played very well last year and is coming back from injury for a guy in USL. Got it.
We have a glut in dmid. Cronagle was a starter and did well for Cbus. Central D is our weak spot. I'm sure you two geniuses can work out the details for funny money coming our way
Diego Polenta is arguably the best central defender in the Uruguayan league for Nacional right now. He's available on a free and can also play as a fullback. Dave Kasper, line one please.
I guess this belongs here - https://www.dcunited.com/post/2018/...s-and-screaming-eagles-join-forces-audi-field
No, but in form, he's a match for Durkin at the 6 and he's probably a better 8 than anyone on the roster save Arriola. Canouse in form gives us the flexibility to trade Moreno and/or Segura. Those international slots are nearing $200K/yr in value. If Canouse comes back and plays well, we'd have to get a bunch of garberbux to make a trade worth our while, given the opportunity cost.
Obviously we have to sign this guy. Because Polenta is basically grits. And Ben Olsen is all about grit.
It's too obviously a good move. That's why it'll never happen . . . Hey, maybe now that Hunt's gone . . .
