Thanks for all this info el-capitano. We always have a lot of player turnover in our league and this year is no exception.

That's the result of a cap I guess. Its also a bit of a sad indication that a player can play at 4 or 5 clubs in one league during his career.

with 15 minutes to go in the season opener I suppose it can only get better from here. A very poor quality game with very little action. Adelaide have had two chances so far and scored one goal, and I don't think Sydney have created a chance at all. Lots of poor passing and poor control. The standard of A league football has never been very high, but at least it used to be entertaining. If this game is typical it wont be a great year

PS As I was typing Sydney scored from their only chance so far.

Yep- Syd were very poor, but in the mark of a good team, they found a way to get a point away from home. Lets see if the derby next week can get them fired up!

Adelaide was equally poor, but it wasn't the standard that so much annoyed me, I don't expect a lot of smooth silky play in the A League, its the fact that there didn't seem to be much urgency from either side until Sydney equalised. The quality didn't increase, but we did see more go forward in the last 15 minutes than we saw in the rest of the game.

Adelaide had an excuse though- no true striker, they played pretty much the only way they could- and it almost worked.

Sydney have to find a replacement for the fast Bee, fast. Last year we were full of slow old men, and he was a breath of fresh air in the pre-season.

When is the league going to move the matchday squad up to 18? Having just 16 reeks of small time and I think hurts the league.

You can still only use three so I'm not quite sure what having two extra players kitted up sitting on the sidelines achieves. You have enough options with a well selected bench if you have a spare keeper and four outfield players to choose from. Maybe I just think that way as I'm old school and like to see a team play a whole match with only substitutes for injuries. I know those days will never return but I miss them.

You're right to some degree, though two extra subs would allow for some specialization and add some tactical nuance. However, I know from experience here that 18 is the norm the world over, and when MLS did the 16 thing, a lot of people turned their noses up at the league. Two extra travellers seems a small price to pay for what they would bring just as a marketing tool. The league is over a decade old, you would think they would be past this sort of thing by now.
