A shoplifter threatened to shoot me a few days ago. Pretty sure he was bluffing. Didn't exactly wait to find out for certain, however.

Yeah, I was safe at home. Apparently a shooting victim drove himself and a female passenger to the hospital and the shooter followed and shot him again at the hospital entrance before turning the gun on himself. Both were taken in to the hospital, no idea if either survived.

Apparently the shooter is dead, and the male victim is unlikely to survive.

"Not clear if the victims and suspect knew each other"

Maybe not clear, but I'm gonna put my money on domestic incident. When I got the text from campus police last night, I assumed it was either domestic violence or a drug thing spilling over from the neighborhood (we were getting notifications all day to stay away from the hotel across the street from campus as the police had a "situation" "contained"), but the shooter's suicide suggests domestic to me.

Maria Butina, famed Russian (agent?) gun-nut and rich Republican groupie, is pleading guilty to conspiracy and will cooperate with Federal and State agencies. This is very bad news for the Nationalist Russian Advocates, because the conspiracy involves them.

If there’s a positive in all this Russia-Trump-NRA clusterfvck, is that we might be able to get rid of the NRA sooner than expected...

Air Force did not report domestic abuser turned into mass shooter to national database:

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/texas-mass-shooter-domestic-abuse_us_5c0eb064e4b08bcb27eb4af3

Kelley enlisted in the Air Force in 2010, and in 2011, he married Tessa Kelley.

He became extremely abusive, she later told investigators, strangling her, kicking her in the stomach, dragging her by her hair, and occasionally sticking her head under the shower to “water-board” her. Her minor son was also a target of Kelley’s wrath and was hospitalized more than once due to Kelley’s violence.

She reported him to officials, and in November 2012, Kelley pleaded guilty in general court-martial proceedings to assault on his then-wife and stepson. He was sentenced to a reduction in rank, confinement for 12 months and a bad conduct discharge.

Under Department of Defense policy, investigators were required to submit Kelley’s fingerprints to the FBI. The report counts four missed opportunities in which his fingerprints should have been sent and weren’t. The Air Force also missed opportunities to submit its final report on the case to the FBI ― twice. That’s six failures in all.

If the Air Force had passed along Kelley’s information, he would have been banned from purchasing guns.

Instead, Kelley was able to buy four guns after leaving the Air Force, three of which he carried with him into the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs on Nov. 5, 2017.

Why are we stuck with so many psychopathic asshats?

    https://www.necn.com/news/national-...t-on-Shooting-Anniversary-AP-502778722.html?s

Sandy Hook Elementary School students were sent home for the day after a bomb threat forced the evacuation of the school Friday, the sixth anniversary of the massacre that killed 20 first-graders and six educators.

Newtown police said a bomb threat was called in around 9 a.m. Friday and the school was evacuated.

The threat is not believed to be credible, Lt. Aaron Bahamonde said, but they took it seriously and will investigate fully. No one was hurt and no one was in danger, he said.

Nothing was found during a sweep of the school and police left the school ground just before noon.

There's a heightened level of anxiety in town on the anniversary and the school superintendent decided to cancel remaining classes, according to Bahamonde. Police are investigating the source of the threat.

It never ceases to amaze me the selfish pvssies who use the reasoning they need THOSE to protect themselves/family or even worse, resist banning due to their "hobby" being affected.

I never really bought into the theory that overcompensating for your manhood is tied to big SUV's/trucks, but after seeing that picture and the context, it makes you wonder if the gun theory isnt more fitting.

To hell with all of them.

Those numbers have a lot of overlap, and the statistics are pretty clear that those people who say they are going to buy a gun never do.

NRA suing NY because they may "unable to exist anymore"

    https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/nra-financial-trouble-706371/

In the new document — an amended complaint filed in U.S. District Court in late July — the NRA says it cannot access financial services essential to its operations and is facing “irrecoverable loss and irreparable harm.”

Specifically, the NRA warns that it has lost insurance coverage — endangering day-to-day operations. “Insurance coverage is necessary for the NRA to continue its existence,” the complaint reads. Without general liability coverage, it adds, the “NRA cannot maintain its physical premises, convene off-site meetings and events, operate educational programs … or hold rallies, conventions and assemblies.”

The complaint says the NRA’s video streaming service and magazines may soon shut down.

“The NRA’s inability to obtain insurance in connection with media liability raises risks that are especially acute; if insurers remain afraid to transact with the NRA, there is a substantial risk that NRATV will be forced to cease operating.” The group also warns it “could be forced to cease circulation of various print publications and magazines.”

In addition to its insurance troubles, the NRA court filing also claims that “abuses” by Cuomo and the New York State Department of Financial Services “will imminently deprive the NRA of basic bank-depository services … and other financial services essential to the NRA’s corporate existence.”

The lawsuit presents these financial risks as catastrophic. Without access to routine banking services, the NRA claims, “it will be unable to exist as a not-for-profit or pursue its advocacy mission.” The lawsuit accuses New York’s government of seeking to “silence one of America’s oldest constitutional rights advocates,” pleading to the court: “If their abuses are not enjoined, they will soon, substantially, succeed.”

The lawsuit stems from actions taken by New York financial regulators to halt the sale of an illegal, NRA-branded insurance policy. The NRA actively marketed “Carry Guard,” a policy to reimburse members for legal costs incurred after firing a legal gun. In May, the state of New York found that Carry Guard “unlawfully provided liability insurance to gun owners for certain acts of intentional wrongdoing.” The NRA’s insurance partners agreed to stop selling the policies and pay a $7 million fine.

I hear Seattle voted to van semiautomatic rifles purchases by people under 21.

We do it for hand guns, so I can see this surviving a legal challenge, or being used to reverse the hand gun age laws.

A 14 year old is driving a car (!), firing eggs at people. He angers another motorist, who flashes a semi-automatic weapon. The 14 year old panics, drives off, crashes into a truck, and kills the woman who was driving the truck. The 14 year old is being charged with murder, while the motorist flashing the semi-automatic is not.
