I wholeheartedly concur. I thought that initially he was playing out of position or that he needed to be with Acosta but game after game has proved he is rubbish.

That said - we are stuck with him and not much else baring some summer miracle acquisition so the next question is what to do with him.

With his massive ears, he'd be a natural working at Chuck E. Cheese.

According to the salary data pdf he's making $130k. I assume if you cancel his loan we'd have $65k of cap space to work with for the 2nd half. Cut him if you need the space but otherwise keep him as a reserve.

I'm not convinced he's worse than Pajoy.

Isn't Pajoy lighting it up somewhere in South or Central America?

Pajoy actually did his job for us at the end of 2012 when we got him to replace DeRo (and switch systems)

Ortiz is good at harassing the opponent's backline and forcing bad passes. That's really been his best quality, and I would say it's underrated, except for the fact that there's a statistically insignificant chance we'll score off the ensuing possession. To be fair, we're playing him on an island, and that might not be what he's best suited for.

He's a serviceable placeholder, but I feel like I've seen enough. I'd really like to give Kamara a run out before mid-season, so we know where we are with him. Have him split minutes with LeToux until Mullins gets back on his feet or we bring in someone really dangerous.

In case this taek hasn't been hot enough for this thread, it bothers me that his haircut makes him look like this guy:

I expected Benny to call up Kamara along with Durkin for the Open Cup match. Didn't he have a hat trick recently for Richmond? Anyway, he has to be more threatening than Ortiz.

Maybe it's a sign we'll play Kamara in the next game...? :cautious:

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Pajoy, for all of his foibles, makes the pass to Robbie Russell who threads the ball through to NDL who scores the game winner. Pajoy is never worse than Ortiz.

Hopefully Ortiz is returned to Costa Rica this summer and United uses his international slot in a trade or an actual threat to score. I agree with others, nice try, but he's not good enough so try again.

Is it possible that Ortiz is simply miscast as a lone striker? Did he play that way in Costa Rica?

I think this point has previously been made. It's like having Salihi upfront by himself.

I thought that as well. Either he is miscast and everyone else is shit. Or, he is shit and everyone else is shit. I'm going toward the latter.

I've seen him on the wing, I've seen in a two striker setup, I've seen him miss sitters (to be fair that is our current striker technique), and I've seen him outrun by old fat guys on pub teams.

He isn't fast, he isn't accurate, he lacks the ability to hold up the ball. If there is some other talent in there we've yet to see it.

Sometimes the worst possible thing happens when a a sub-par Forward comes on the field. He scores. Ortiz did this. And so did Pajoy. It would have been far, far better for DC United in the long run for Ortiz not to have scored in his first game.

If there's one thing that unites this board, it is Ortiz.

I'm jealous at how fast Herediano was able to dump him on somebody else.

HIs big ears make his hearing acute. Important trait in a forward.

Will Bruin seems like a likely candidate if we release/return Ortiz. That Mann has always done well against the black and red. He wouldn't change our formation. HIM and Mullins would battle for minutes, iron sharpens iron.

I think Bruin and Mullins would forma nice two striker pair. Bruin as a target man with Mullins running off of him. Acosta filling up the open space behind Mullins...

We are in an odd spot where we have a 10 + a bunch of mediocre and young talent that mostly become superfluous in a two-person central-mid formation. We'd need to hire a lockdown 6, at least, and I suspect we'd have difficulty controlling the midfield when one of them was out.

A 352 would be a really interesting arrangement with our roster, though. Plus someone like Bruin, that is.
