An upset, especially after Iñárritu took directing honors. However, Spotlight did pick up a screenplay award while The Revenant didn't even receive a nomination for its writing. A tip-off of what was in the cards, perhaps. I believe the biggest upset of the night was Mark Rylance beating out Stallone.
I am not sure why they only featured three of the five nominated songs. Regardless, I think the weakest of the five won.
Well, it's the Academy Awards, not the Saturn Awards. The damn thing walked off with the most Oscars of the night -- 6!
Going by what had read in the last few days, it seemed that Stallone was going to get it. I haven't seen Bridge of Spies so I can't say how good Mark Rylance was in this. But he is very good, he was great in Wolf Hall.
I like Mark Ruffalo's performance. I did not know who he was until the Bridge of Spies. I thought Titanic destroyed Leonardo's career. The movie turned the character actor from "who is eating Gilbert Grape" to a teenage idol. I knew many people thought he was a pretty boy. It would take him years to shake that off and win an Oscar. It had been 17 or 18 years since the Titanic! Congrats!
I never pay attention to the Oscars but this little tidbit caught my eye. I saw her play with Black Flag more than a few times. Former Black Flag Bassist, Kira Rossler, Wins an Academy Award
I guess that's what I don't understand. Why is it less deserving to win best picture because of its genre? I suppose it's like asking why defensive players rarely win the Heisman or NFL MVP.
From what I've read in comments here and other sites. I thought Mad Max would not even get a mention. Now I suppose I'm going to have to see it on the big screen. Mrs Scouse won't be up for it so I guess it's me and my blood and guts mate Terry. The Revenent. I could see Leo getting his there, just for the shear intensity he kept up all through the show.
Indeed it was the weakest song. Gaga hit it out of the park yet again. Why it did not win did not make sense to me.
