I have to disagree with you about your analysis of Syracuse's move to Utica. The Syracuse Crunch had nothing to do with the operation of the Silver Knights. The Silver Knights were on their own to sell tickets and get sponsors. Utica City will not be on its own and will have the resources of the Comets for tickets and sponsorships. In addition when it comes to arenas, the Adirondack Bank Center is a better venue than the Oncenter. The Adirondack Bank Center may have a smaller seating capacity, but as a person who has been in both arenas, the Adirondack Bank Center is much better. The Oncenter is a good arena for the early 1970s, but the Adirondack Bank Center is a good arena for today.

No, it's an Albany expression. (A regional dialect)

Good analysis of the Ambush. Clearly, the Ambush are not able or willing to sign experienced accomplished MASL free agent players. They had chances to sign several back in May (and did sign a mid-roster guy, Manfut, but failed to land several bigger names). Now Hewerton is taking the creative approach of having tryouts in Brazil for futsal guys who might come to Saint Louis. Is this approach really saving money, given the work visa and travel costs to bring Brazilian futsal players here?

The Ambush still need to replace about half the roster with better players if they hope to win more than a few games. At least there is some modest effort being made to improve the roster but this team is a long way from winning half their games. I appreciate being fiscally responsible, but to win games in the MASL, you have to sign at least several impact players and put a solid roster around them.

They signed two decent free agents (Magui, a futsal guy and Antonio Manfut, a mid-roster point-a-game player) but lost two good defenders, including rising star Dylan Hundeldt, to Orlando. Will the team sign enough futsal guys to make a difference? Signing a couple of guys won't be enough. Are the Ambush doing anything to attract the best local soccer talent? If they aren't going to sign established players, they should be trying to find the best local talent that might be productive. Still a lot more questions than answers. Lots of talk over the last 2 seasons, still waiting on the wins.

    You could be right.

I don't think it matters that it's a better arena because they aren't going to be pulling that many people from Syracuse. The Crunch have averaged over 5,000 a game for 20-some years in Syracuse despite that arena's shortcomings.

Having a staff will be great if they are managed properly. If you were busting your butt to fill 40 dates you're probably not going to be very enthusiastic about filling 12 more dates for a sport you might not even like. They did this in Utah and the staff got burned out and their GM didn't really care about soccer and resented having a second team.

In Utica this might not matter as much because the hockey games have sold out. I don't know if they are genuinely popular or if the staff is busting their butt to get groups and resell season tickets each year.

It should be an upgrade of the franchise, but I'm more skeptical about how this improves the league's profile in any way.
