Just looked at the schedule. We have 10 games left. I know there's a lot of stuff we're worrying about right now, but I'm going to hope it all works out in our favor and we can get back to worrying about the team on the field. The top 5 teams in the league right now via ppg are: Atl, NY, NY, Dal, and Por. 4 of our next 5 games are against Atl, NY, Dal, and Por: @ Atlanta @ Chicago NYCFC @ Dallas @ Portland Note that the other game in that list is at Toyota Park, a place where we are extremely unlikely to get 3 points. Not sure what a good target would be, but frankly it seems like 4 or 5 points would be a win. 6 or 7 points would make us one of the top few picks for MLS Cup going into the playoffs. Of course you only play one game at a time, so all focus right now would be on getting any sort of result at Atlanta. On the plus side, our final 5 games are: Colorado Philadelphia @ Montreal @ Orlando Minnesota Of course, MLS being what it is, you can count on 1 or 2 of those teams going on a hot streak, and that schedule looking a bit tougher a month from now. But those next 5 games look like a big challenge. If we can come out of them looking halfway decent, we should feel real good about ourselves heading into October and November.
What do you mean by halfway decent? Is three or four draws decent? Not bad results but it is a monster stretch.
Chicago has almost let go of the rope. We can win there. Dallas has not been nearly as good since Diaz left. So too NYCFC since Viera (though missing Villa surely contributed & he is back now). Though that one is at home. Portland just had their 14 (15?) game unbeaten run snapped. That will be tough. Ditto Atlanta. Results in 3 of 5 with at least one win. 5 pts min. 2-1-2 for 7 would be fantastic. 8 pts or better & we are over the moon. 10 or better = serious MLS Cup contender.
6 pts at worse or we could fall from 4th 7 pts would be ok 9 points would be incredible 10 or more would be mind blowing
I probably would have said 5 in the abstract. Looking game by game, home field us a big deal. NYCFC is good but away record is not. So on an individual game at a time I would have said L-W-W for those first three and hope for at least one tie from the last two for 7 points. I'll stick with 5 points being respectable and 7 being a "win"
Let us make a push for 3rd. Dallas and Portland are tough, but not invincible. I would like to see at least 3 pts out of the next two, with a home win to put a bow on it to end this stretch of congestion.
