We should start a tourism ban against Alabama & Missouri. OK, stop laughing. I'm serious!

Do people still go to Branson now that Andy has passed?

I promise to not be a tourist in Alabamastan.
Also, doubt I will be heading to Misery, err, Missouri, any time soon, either.
    You're welcome.

Andy Williams. He had a theater in Branson.

He was Yakov Smirnoff's older brother, I think, but I could be wrong about that.

I was hoping "Andy" was "Andy Kaufman."

    That would've been great.

Andy Kaufman is also probably Yakov Smirnoff, as well.

I drove through Alabama once on my way from Fl to NOLA. I don't think I will ever step foot in that state again.

    (emphasis added)
Law signed and comments made on Wednesday 5/15
Thursday 5/16 - less than 24 hours later - Alabama executes man.

Apparently, some lives are more precious than others. I wasn't aware God's "sacred gift" had a return policy in some cases.

Missouri just said to Alabama , "Please, hold my beer".

Drawing jeers from abortion rights activists seated in the Missouri House, lawmakers on Friday approved a sweeping piece of anti-abortion legislation, a bill that would ban most abortions in the state of Missouri,” the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
“The final vote was 110-44, and the proposal now heads to Gov. Mike Parson (R) who is expected to sign the measure.”
“The bill bans abortions in the state of Missouri at eight weeks of pregnancy, except when the life of the mother is threatened. There are no exceptions for rape, incest or human trafficking.”

Yes, my state is so corrupt and the district maps so crooked that the 163 house make up is 114-46 (3 vacancies) If you gave the Democratic legislators double votes, they still couldn't block a bill. When you have supermajorities, this is the crap you get.

Oh well, we all know that Missouri legislators always have a rather particular view of rape.....

Here is the dipshit's actual quote:

“Most of my rapes were not the gentlemen jumping out of the bushes that nobody had ever met. That was one or two times out of one hundred. Most of them were date rapes or consensual rapes, which were all terrible, but I sat in court — sat in court — when juries would struggle with those types of situations where it was a ‘he-said she-said,’ and they would find the person not guilty. Unfortunate, if it really happened, but I had no control over that, because it was a judge or a jury making those decisions. But we’ll just say someone is sexually assaulted. They have eight weeks to make a decision.”

If you want to watch the dipshit's comments:
    https://heavy.com/news/2019/05/barry-hovis-consensual-rape-video/

Here is the dipshit trying to walk back the idiotic statement:

“It’s my apology if I didn’t annunciate the word ‘or,’” Hovis said.

When pressed on whether that explanation made sense in the context of the rest of his sentence, he said that he believes there is no such thing as “consensual rape.”

I hitchhiked from Little Rock to Atlanta many many moons ago. To Memphis, thru Miss to Birmingham and on to Atlanta. Two very brief waits. Never been back to either Miss or Alabama except for the necessary return. :coffee:

As relevant today as when it came out 47 years ago.

    Oh Alabama
    Banjos playing
    Through the broken glass
    Windows down in Alabama
    See the old folks
    Tied in white robes
    Hear the banjo
Don't it take you down home?

    Alabama, you got
    The weight on your shoulders
    That's breaking your back
    Your Cadillac
Has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track

In a couple of weeks, my wife and I will drive through Alabama.

It's the only way to get to Pittsburgh from here.

That is only true if you are already in Alabama.

Otherwise, you'll just need to drive farther.

I'll have more to share re: Missery politics later. But in the meantime, you really need to understand that our MO GOP reps really do know their stuff when it comes to reproduction and women's bodies.

Don't believe me? Speaker of the House Elijah Haahr goes by the alias Seymour Bush, MD. Dr. Bush is of course a gynecologist. Fake profile, but the photos are very, very real.

Drove used to drive through 'bama on the way to see the moms at Xmas (reference previous conversation about Greek and saving paper in the old days). Would stop at the same gas station on the way back each time. Of course, never knew exactly who would be pumping gas at the same time, was a very dynamic mix. But that is about it.
