Today is the 37th anniversary of the SCOTUS ruling on Roe v. Wade - and with it, the March for Life in DC along with the counter-protests at the Supreme Court from prochoice advocates. I didn't see another thread around here on it, so here you go. I thought it might be interesting to hear from folks in other part of the US, to see what kind of protest/march/presence there is in your communities. There was a rally in downtown Portland on Sunday but if there's anything going on today, I don't know about it.
Sorry, I had to go to work to post on BigSoccer.com so I don't know what was going on with the local protests.
My wife baked a cake with a fetus inside. Relax, it was a king cake for mardi gras and the Saints game last night! For those of you unfamiliar with the practice, you put a plastic baby doll in the cake as a "prize." Where I live, there is a right to life sticker on about every third car, so no need for any special rallies.
Those things are disturbingly fetus-looking, aren't they? I ordered a king cake for the office from Haydel's Bakery. It came with, among other things, a pair of beads with king cake babies covered in fake gold paint. Truly frightening looking.
You know you've spent too much time on the internet when you click on a link expecting to see some type of porn fetish.
Probably the best place to put this right now... Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad: Anti-Abortion Commercial to Air Provided that NOW or whoever gets access to purchase equal time I have no issue with this ad running during the Super Bowl.
In general that sounds like a fair opinion. However, the issue is that CBS has always refused any kind of "advocacy ads" in the past, notably for progressive causes. Now there is an anti-choice ad with a cute little anecdotal story about one lady's personal choice, and they suddenly say they have changed their mind about letting those types of ads on the air. And oh, if you manage to produce a good ad for the other, legal, side in one week or less we might be able to sell you a spot too, never mind you did not produce a Super Bowl ad because you have been repeatedly told over the years that they will not run one no matter how well it is done. It just seems a bit convenient that this year they change their mind so late and when very few slots for ads are still available. Seems shady to me.
I have a hard time believing this is some sort of a conspiracy. Les Moonves' donation history does not lead me to believe that he even supports the message http://www.newsmeat.com/media_political_donations/Les_Moonves.php
I didn't say it was a conspiracy, just that the timing seems a bit shady. I'm pretty sure any "conspiracy" is simply the almighty dollar
I have no issue with anyone who wants to put up the money advocating the issue of their choice. Doesn't mean I am going to agree with it.
This reminds me of the speech Palin gave about her "choice" to have her Downs baby. I'm pretty sure the whole concept of her even having that choice -- and the Roe decision's place in that -- flew over her head.
