As we await news over our jersey sponsor, it's helpful to remind ourselves that other clubs are potentially in more precarious situations regarding sponsorship: Inter Miami Fans Indignant Over Potential Sponsorship Deal With Qatar
Yea I was going to mention that. Not all money is good money. Being a cowtown has it's advantages sometimes. The other whataboutism story that made me feel good about Crew this week was ATL trading Gressel to DCU. Whatever we may go through in Trapp transfer drama won't cause as much supporter heartburn as Gressel did for the summer children in ATL.
To be fair, one is the airline (Bayern)--who also sponsored Barcelona--while Miami appears to be the government. Still, the airline is also a government entity....
The Earthquakes signed a new jersey sponsor (some cloud communication thing I never heard of) and Colorado extended the deal with theirs.
For some reason this headline for FCC made me laugh. Good on them for having a scrimmage this week! Big things for them indeed.
Wow. So the coach handed half the team yellow pinnies and had the two groups play, like, soccer. Has this ever happened before? What a milestone in FC Kentucky history. They should definitely install a granite marker on the field. EDIT: Or maybe they just played shirts and skins.
It's the offseason. There's little to talk about. I remember hearing during spring football training on 1460 a few years back, during their between-segment updates, that the Ohio State Buckeye football team was eating lunch.
Clark Hunt told reporters today that "the right time" to sign Mahomes to an extension will come at some point, and its "a priority" but it may not come until a year from now. You can always count on f*cking Clark Hunt to try and cheap out on paying a player what hes worth. I hate that lying piece of shit.
More happy news coming out of Nashville: Less than encouraging news from @Tennessean on Nashville SC's proposed stadium.Mayor Cooper says that infrastructure costs are going way above where they were supposed to be, thus stalling the the building of the stadium. No timetable set for when it will get back on track. pic.twitter.com/Toxd5PWH2B— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) January 28, 2020
I've been told by people that are trying to build the stadium down there that the current mayor wants nothing to do with MLS or a new stadium and is making it as hard as possible to get anything done.
I've been told by people in the MLS NA Stadium Thread that playing in football stadiums is OK long term, so I guess I don't see what the big deal is. Oh well.
Report: Bobby Wood finalizing move to FC Cincinnati https://sbisoccer.com/2020/01/report-bobby-wood-finalizing-move-to-fc-cincinnati So, we get Adi and they get Wood. Hmmm...
I'm a little jealous they got Wood (insert juvenile laughter) - given the choice between him and Adi, I'd take Wood (hehe). I don't think we were ever interested in Wood, but I'd say FCKy got a pretty good trade in strikers, financials not-withstanding.
Where exactly would you put him? He’s not coming to MLS to ride the bench and he’s not done enough to take Zardes’s place.
And he'd cost far more than Adi is costing us. That's might be the best money FCKY has made as far as signing. Adi deal was a financial disaster.
He is definitely inept in the Bundesliga, no doubt about that. This year, in the Bundesliga 2 with Hamburg, he has a whopping 0 goals in 152 minutes. 2 starts, going 60 minutes and 45 minutes. I mean, kinda says it all. Last two years in the Bundesliga (Hannover and Hamburg) he has a total of 5 goals. I don’t think he’s a bad signing for Cincy. I expect him to be pretty decent actually. His physical traits are fantastic (size, speed, strength, work ethic) but his mental speed of play and overall awareness lets him down. Stepping down to the MLS level, where teams largely ignore spending money on defense, he’ll do alright IMO.
I just want to note that this signing allows us to poke fun at MLS' so-called "allocation" process. Remember that? Used to be a big deal. https://www.mlssoccer.com/allocation You'd think Wood would be on the list, but he's not. Why? I have no idea. It's a weird list, now, mostly made up of former MLSers, with a tiny number of youth and senior USMNT players. In days gone by, this is the way a player like Wood most likely would have entered the league. Now, presumably, FCC just had him on their discovery list??? Though that assumes no other team in MLS had placed a claim on him first, which is hard to believe. Ah, the never-ending mystery of player allocation and roster rules in MLS...
