Nice for Nigeria, that were also missing one of their best player, Asisat Oshoala, that at the same moment was busy scoring a goal in the Women's Champions' League final vs OL (it was a lonely Barça's goal, after 4 from the Lyonnais). I guess it was the first African goal in a WCL final (including the years when it was called UEFA Women's Cup), of course if you don't consider players of African descent but with different citizenship, as Célia Okoyino da Mbabi/Sasic.
That goal by Nigeria literally came in the last second(90+4). Ivory Coast blew the game by poor defense in the end.
Confirmation from the UEFA WCL's website: "Asisat Oshoala is the first senior African international to play in a final of this competition and has a goal to remember!" I had the suspect that Genoveva Añonma could have played a WCL final, but in fact she signed for 1.FFC Turbine Potsdam just the season after they had their second (and last so far) final vs OL.
The Ivorian broadcaster RTI has been covering the tournament, including live. Nigeria has apparently gotten very good at just barely scraping up titles by PKs over the past year or two... By my count, all four of their last four competitive knockout matches ended in KftS. With that many draws, it's honestly rather surprising to see them still winning with how much their dominance has faded.
