[IMG] [IMG] The previous West African final: Ivory Coast 0 - 1 Ghana (Janet Egyir, 3') in the inaugural 2018 Cup. (Tournament report on MyJoy / Archived)

A lot of water under the bridge since then: Nigeria became the champions of Africa, in the 2018 Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Mali's Aiglonnes fought to 4th place but missed the World Cup:

The 2019 Cup is scheduled from 8 May - 18 May - the first day is at Stade Champroux in Abidjan, Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast v Togo (15:30 GMT)
    Senegal v Ghana (18:30 GMT)

Senegal and Mali are in the far west "Wafu A" zone, the other 6 nations are in the "Wafu B" zone
    [IMG]

[IMG] Nigerian TV had a couple of minutes' chat about the draw - as they mention, outside the Fifa window, the players' clubs can choose to keep them:

Well, when scores go higher than 10-0, something make them look special in your mind, doesn't it? :p

No need to imagine it - someone filmed it all (!)

Video from Day 1, the hosts:

[IMG] COTE D'IVOIRE 5 - 0 TOGO [IMG] - HOUANE Rolande (9' pen), DIAKITE Binta (26'), COUSSO Esperance (33'), KOKO Ange (52'), KOUADIO Sandrine (90+3')

    (Match report: MondialSport.net - Autotranslated / Archived)

[IMG] [IMG] The other game that day (Wednesday) was the closest match so far: Ghana 2, Senegal 0, but there doesn't seem to be a video of it. Reports on GhanaWeb and Goal.com.

In terms of being surprised by the scores, I'm not. Togo & Niger only play in this tournament. Senegal's always been an average team in CAF. Burkina Faso just started playing a few years ago. It was expected to be Nigeria, Ghana, Mali & Ivory Coast in the semis.

Oh yeah, the gap in the WAFU is fairly small-fry. We often get mismatches in these tournaments - it's just part of the sport at the moment.

They swapped the day 3 kickoff times - so the CIV played their game in the evening. Senegal came close to taking the lead @35mins in the video:
Love the Ivory Coast's musical atmosphere! ♫ Nice to see fans/a fanclub(?) who are choreographed and dress alike who aren't in North Korea.

Fifteen? Oh dear. It's like Concacaf!
Sometimes it happens that a weak team gets worse - hopefully the reason isn't anything sinister. No idea if Niger have lost any talented players (there's very scant info). The team has some support from the federation, and even Unicef, but it hasn't translated into better results.

All 15 goals are online, as is Burkina Faso v Mali - the Burkinabè team matched the Malians for 70 minutes at 1-1, before two Mali goals (not in the video).

    Day 6 (Monday)
The first game between the top 4 nations:
[IMG] Ivory Coast v Ghana [IMG] (Group A) video/stream (16:00 GMT)

At the same time, Togo v Senegal, presuming the links are right.

Check out the downpour in the 2nd half of Ivory Coast v Ghana - the rain delayed the game and also affected Togo v Senegal. [IMG] [IMG] Match report on Togo's win: their 2 goals were by Woedikou Apefa and Konou Yawa.

    Day 7 (Tuesday)
    The last group games:
[IMG] Nigeria -v- Mali [IMG] (Group B) video/stream (16:00 GMT)

It's branded as "the final avant la lettre", but last year both teams lost their semi-finals. (Preview on Malijet.co)

The other game is Burkina Faso v Niger, which ended 5-1 last year.
