The USL has been renamed USL-Championship. It looks like there will be 36 teams total with 18 in each conference. There may be a hitch with Ottawa in the East since CONCACAF says they are not going to sanction them to continue playing in a US league now that the Canadian Premiere League is starting in 2019. We'll see how that gets resolved. For now this is the conference alignment: Expansion teams in Red EAST Atlanta United 2 Bethlehem Steel Birmingham Legion Charleston Battery Charlotte Independence Hartford Athletic Indy Eleven Loudoun United Louisville City Memphis 901 Nashville SC NY Red Bulls II North Carolina FC Ottawa Fury Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saint Louis Swope Park Rangers Tampa Bay Rowdies WEST Austin Bold Colorado Springs Switchbacks El Paso Locomotive Fresno FC LA Galaxy II Las Vegas Lights New Mexico United OKC Energy Orange County SC Phoenix Rising Portland Timbers 2 Real Monarchs Reno 1868 Rio Grande Valley Sacramento Republic San Antonio FC Seattle Sounders 2 Tulsa Roughnecks
The 2019 home openers schedule is out: https://www.indyeleven.com/news_article/show/977349 Here are the games involving RGV. Home team first. Saturday, March 9 Seattle Sounders 2 vs. Rio Grande Valley FC Saturday, March 16 Rio Grande Valley FC v. Fresno FC
With the USL-Championship up to 36 teams they are going to expand their playoffs to 10 teams from each conference. https://www.uslchampionship.com/news_article/show/978703 2019 USL Cup Playoffs Schedule Play-In Round – October 23 Conference Quarterfinals – October 25-27 Conference Semifinals – November 1-3 Conference Finals – November 8-10 USL Cup – November 14-18
The full USL-Championship schedule is also out. Of course that is pending resolution of the Ottawa sanctioning situation. I have no idea what they will do if Ottawa is really forced out of the USL-C by CONCACAF. https://www.uslchampionship.com/league-schedule Here is the RGV schedule for 2019: Home team first, times are TBD Saturday, March 9 Seattle Sounders 2 v. While noting on the Pumas discussion that we had 3 draft picks on that team, I was curious where the current HD and RGV rosters stood. I feel like expectations have dropped through the floor to the point we don't even track how they do for accountability. In terms of HGP, it's Deric, Memo, and McCue (3). Deric is a long term HGP but due to reliability issues and now a performance slide is a backup. Memo is on the edge of the 18 (and has been in the organization since 2015, people seem to forget). McCue is nominally Dynamo in that he is first team-signed, but in reality probably RGV fodder we won't dress. Cut HGP: Lucatero 2017 Ibeagha 2016 In terms of picks total on the first team, Nelson and Junqua (2). Both are basically Dynamo in registration only. At present, no starters, maybe 1-2 dress a night. Might be a slight uptick in the international summer. This means Dunwell and Samuels aren't on our roster at all, got cut. Did they go to RGV or disappear? 2019 that's a net of 33% of the draft (generous) and the one doesn't dress and is probably really at RGV. 2018, Nelson is the 3rd keeper on the first team roster. Aguilar, Padilla, and Sullivan are signed direct to RGV, I think. Steeves is out of the organization and in the minors. Net 20%, generous. 80% of that draft is signed to minor league teams and the other 20% might as well be. 2017, Holland and Radjen are out of the organization and in the minors. McGuire is out of the organization and last I see was in Sweden. Sagel I think is out of soccer period. 0% first team. 25% abroad, 50% minors, 25% done with soccer. 2016, Magalhaes and Casner are free agents out of the organization and perhaps done with soccer. 0%. 100% done with soccer. It probably wouldn't look much prettier going back to 2015 and beyond but I wanted to draw a line under the post Kinnear regime. You could probably put this under a variety of threads but I put it under RGV because right now that's where those who have survived actually play, if they do see the field.

Toros essentially fielded a Dynamo reserve backline. Deric, Duvall, Fuenmayor, Junqua and conceded twice against a poor El Paso team. Monroy has looked pretty good in the first three games. I’ve liked Foster in the first two, but he’s undersized and not convinced he can translate to MLS. Dunwell has done a respectable job in the #6 role, but he’s on the slow side.

I take it to be your classic "injury assignment" a la baseball. If they were wise it wouldn't last just a weekend for a player who keeps getting hurt.
Cabezas reminds me of Moises Alou (Astros)... very good but hurt all the time. Need a “handle with care” label on that guy.

C'mon now. Wade Barrett could've done better than this. We're about to pull a Blackpool and get regulated to League One.
RGV may move down. Orlando and Toronto already did that with their "2" teams. FCD started their team in League One. But I'd be surprised. The local ownership in the Valley is probably going to want to stay in USL-C. OR USL could actually start Promotion/Relegation as they have said they might. I'd guess that is still a few years off if it ever happens. In 2018 RGV started off with 2 points after 5 games as well. They recovered to finish with 38 points in 34 games and were 9 spots from the bottom in the league last year (25th out of 33 teams). LAGII, Seattle2, Atlanta2, and Toronto II all were below them.
First win of the season over OKC. 2-1. Nice goal from Enriquez who looks to still be one of the better players down there. I’d still like to see him get a look with the Dynamo as cheap bench depth. Carlos Small made the bench, but he has seemingly lost the starting forward role to Michael Salazar. Samuels and Junqua both look like favored starters. Dunwell has been absent after getting three starts. The major knock on him in the Combine was his mobility and he’s struggled in USL with that as well. Isidro Martinez and Kyle Adams are the other solid guys so far this season, although Adams made a bit of a boneheaded play this game. I’ve also thought Foster and Monroy have looked good in their appearances.
