So Macias can potentially miss starting in a Liga MX final, and the chance of coming off the bench for Raul at the GC, just to go 3 and out with this team? Cool.
Why is it that our players always look physically under developed compared to their opponents? Even the frkin ref is a body builder relative to our players lol what do they do in their times instead of weights?
It's been discussed ad nauseam on these boards...but we don't have a weight lifting culture in athletics.
Still looking for Lainez to make any sort of mark on this game but he's been tough to find. pic.twitter.com/XNwUDYgWhr— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) May 23, 2019
The right back, number 2, is overmatched and that's also where Italy has found the easiest way into the Mexican box but to be fair, he has grown into the game and found his rhythm. Misael Dominguez provides no physical challenge on the left side so Macias and Lainez have to help him double team the Italian players on that side of the field in order to win the ball back when not in possession. Mexico too slow in transition and really insist on keeping the ball in areas of the field where Italy don't mind. Bit counterproductive if you ask me. Mexico's build up is too slow to take advantage of spaces in the midfield. The fullbacks seemed to be tasked with carrying the ball upfield and unloading it onto the forwards but neither one of the fullbacks has beat their man off the dribble and placed a ball into the box with a consistent advantage for Macias, at least not often enough. Macias with some hero-ball moments but he's clearly on another level compared to his teammates. He's not making safe plays and is looking to get a shot on goal anytime he's near the box. One of these chances, or half chances, might just fall his way. I have a feeling Mexico can smash and grab this game in the second half.
I understand the lack of weight lifting culture for the regular day people but for professional sports athletes? It’s always been a curious topic to me. If I was in charge, I would include a competent strength training regime for our guys.
Misael Dominguez? He had some flashes but was incredibly lacking on the defensive side of the ball. Not sure I would agree with you that he was the best in the first half. The goalkeeper, left side center mid and Macias have a bigger claim to that.
I missed the first half but so far in the second it just seems like a really defensively naive team. They clear the ball when there isn’t danger and come out playing and lose the ball when they should clear.
The Italians almost completely dominant heading into the last 10 minutes. Unless Macias does something special we’re not equalizing.
