I think he’s competing with Amaya. But he’s pretty flexible has played AM, Winger, and CM for RSL. I bet Ramos makes room for both Mendez and Ledezma on the WC team
It is time to dispense with the idea that Dave had a hard job or did the best with the situation or is a coach at all. He proved incapable of coming up with a coherent game plan and getting the players to understand it and execute it. A basic requirement for a coach in any sport. Ramos, whatever lack of world class tactical ability, can come up with a game plan and get the players to execute it. Sarachan as the coach of anything hopefully ended with the Italy game. Maybe a junior college somewhere...
Listening to Ramos on the Scuffed podcast... 1. Carelton and Durkin weren't released because of the playoffs 2. Both are in the mix for the U20 WC 3. Ledezma and Konrad are also players that would have played if he could get them 4. The college players had to be released in September and he had to guess who would be playing well. 5. Adams, Sargent, and Weah are not players he expects to get. Ramos never even discussed Adams even in a "wish I could get" vein. Adams is not in this pool. I like that Ramos will answer any question he is able to. He doesn't think his audience is ignorant and is not afraid to discuss his tactics or player selection thinking.

I’m going to predict that Amon and Carleton will not be released because they will be playing consistently for their clubs
They must be released for that tournament. Amon's team is probably on a break anyway and USF will lean on Atlanta.
I know that certain fans have made Sarachan the whipping boy. They need to blame someone, but I think it comes off as completely misunderstanding the problems we've seen in the NT in recent years. Your point about him coaching a junior college makes no sense, and helps illustrate my point how the Sarachan criticism is past what it should be. Sarachan was a head coach in MLS for five seasons. Do you think there are any current coaches in MLS who would leave their job to become the U-20 coach? I don't think so. How many former MLS coaches do you think are coaching junior college soccer? You aren't going to get top-level coaches to coach US youth teams. A former MLS coach or interim NT coach is probably going to be one of the best coaching options for a youth national team.
Maybe it's more a reading of the tea leaves. If Carleton isn't released when he ain't playing, what does that say for when he is? (There is absolutely no chance he's not at least a role player on next year's team) In fact, maybe him not being released for qualifying was a signal that the U20s might as well get used to playing without him...
I could be wrong, but I believe that clubs are not obligated to release any players for a youth tournament, even a World Cup.
That is cherry picking a lot. Dave was an MLS coach a long time ago, 11 years ago. He has not had a head coaching job again. MLS in 2007 was a different level of competition that MLS in 2018. While an MLS level coach might be over qualified for the U20 program, I don't think Sarachan has shown any ability to put together a gameplan and get the players to play it. It is not looking for a scapegoat. It is plain for all to see. It doesn't dismiss any failure by USSF to hire an actual coach or anything to simply point out that Dave has not demonstrated any of the two things that a coach needs to demonstrate at any level. From U11 to Barcelona, you have to have a coherent game plan and get the players to execute it.
GK: Scott Ochoa Muse D: Dest Lindsey McKenzie Richards Real Gloster M: Mendez Amon Pomykal Durkin Servania Carleton Torres F: Sargent Weah Llanez Soto Akinola If Sargent and Weah can't go then Ledezma and Rennicks
It's too many, in my opinion -- it's half the page on desktop. I volunteer my U20 thread (one is plenty) and my Spreadsheet of Spreadsheets thread to be unstuck if we need nominations. Also not sure why we need one for Dallas Cup. It's one non-FIFA tournament, albeit a big one, and it's not happening for like 5 months.
I'd put the South Park "sticky situation" clip here but, you know, kids might be reading. (I'm actually 9, for example.)
My threads will just have to compete in the Great Marketplace of Ideas that is BigSoccer. Here's hoping you all have good taste.

If he can stay on the field, he should be in contention. The question is whether he can stay on the field.
Best possible roster. I doubt all these players will get released. Is this the best possible U-20 team we've had? GK: Scott, Garces, Muse DF: Lindsey, Dest, Gloster, Richards, McKenzie, Sands MF: Durkin, Adams, Servania, Mendez, Carleton, Pomykal, Amon, Ledezma, Taitague FW: Sargent, Soto, Weah Garces Dest-McKenzie-Ricards-Gloster Durkin-Adams Carleton Pomykal-Soto-Amon
No strong opinion, but a good debate. Remember the last group went to the Finals without Gonzalez, McKennie, Parks, Perez, Pulisic to name a few. And 2015 went without Gooch, Novakovich, Roldan, Green, Gall, Baird ... And, for fun, I'll just mention that Subotic, Bedoya, Besler, Omar, Fab Johnson, Shea, Lichaj and FJ Torres weren't on a pretty solid 2007 squad.
