And also that, when Steffen isn't around, then someone else will have to play his position. Insights like this are why real journalists are so invaluable.
And you can still get a puck or stick hitting you under the visor. Tougher, but... I think that happened to Atkinson this season. I only played hockey with a helmet (required in OSU IM's), so I have no experience with a visor.
Honestly, I think it's because nobody has pads on and the tackle is going to hurt the tackler as much as the tacklee. Really makes you stop and consider how much force you're imparting on to a player.
My favorite one in this vein was when John Madden made the insightful statement that in football "The team that scores the most points USUALLY wins" Rob Stone and Dwight through the years have also had plenty of boneheaded statements in that vein as well... Irregardless, looking forward to complaining about Dwightisms on Fox Sports Ohio again!
Front page of ESPNFC Right now. http://www.espn.com/soccer/major-le...umbus-is-vargas-the-man-for-portland-up-front Nagbe wants into Columbus as bad as Precourt wanted out.
Also in this article: That is relevant given that multiple sources have told ESPN FC that (Giancarlo) Gonzalez, now on the books at Bologna following Palermo's relegation to Serie B two seasons ago, is exploring the possibility of returning to MLS, with the Galaxy among the teams interested in his services. He'd make a nice pairing with Mensah, but CB obviously isn't an area of great need. Still, bring him home!
We got a transfer fee for him, $5MM, so we have no rights to him at this point. Not worth pursuing. I gotta say, I’m a little underwhelmed with the new acquisitions. Maybe the ownership didn’t have time to pull anything off, but a loan or some type of injection of talent would go a long way to proving their intentions. Just the optics of bringing in someone would prove they are serious about being in the top echelon of MLS.
Well, we signed Francis pretty quick after Valenzuela got hurt. And Robinho is new. But our top 16-17 guys are back. And we have a new coach. And new owners and a new GM. All of whom took over in January. They are NOT going to rush a big signing. They are going to assess how what we have fits with Porter and then make decisions. EDIT: I mean, you have no faith in their intentions after: 1) Laying out $645 mil for the stadium and training facility projects. 2) Outbidding the Galaxy for Porter ($1/year). 3) Bezbatchenko hire (you think he left TFC to come to a place his hands would be tied?) 4) Getting us back on FSO with 30 min pre and post game shows. Come now Veruca, I know everyone wants their oompa-loompa now, but I think Dee deserves a bit of a pass here. If nothing gets done in the summer window, then I am with you (unless we are steamrolling).
Just to be clear, I am kind of a Veruca as well. I definitely want my Oompa-Loompa now as well. I do not think Santos/Meram are suddenly going to start banging in goals aplenty (but there is hope they could be a bit better). I have just come to accept that I am not getting one until summer. Porter & Bez have basically told us as much. Given the short timeline, the mess left by Fratboy un-Slim, and what they have already delivered on, the FO gets the benefit of the doubt from me.
The worst thing they could do is come in and spend resources before they really got the lay of the land. The smart thing to do is get an opportunity to evaluate the players yourself and make informed decisions from there. This summer is when we should expect to see some changes. If we don’t see anything in the summer then I will be disappointed.
IIRC my concussion training, hockey was actually not that high on the list. Football was far and away tops and women's/girls soccer was surprisingly high (i want to say 3rd highest rate of incedence)
The beginning of the end for my sons soccer career was the game in college when he took a ehack, suffered a concussion nobody suspected and played the last 55 minutes of a game basically unconscious. He had literally no recall of the game, what went on or even that there had been one. After a night in the hospital -the coach finally caught on that he wasnt all there and the AD stuffed him into her car and ran for the hospital - we had a lot of long, difficult talks about the rest of his life. Concussions are scary stuff indeed. Been there.
So, how would you guys feel about Joe Hart taking over for Steffan when he leaves? http://www.espn.com/soccer/blog/tra...joe-hart-linked-with-major-league-soccer-move
