I've tried a few searches here already for any posts that mention it -- but with no luck - my "search" game is weak today:

I thought I recalled either Bilello or Friedel being quoted as saying that the new elite player, among other attributes, would be "recognizable by everybody" - something along those lines. It implied, or even explicitly represented that there would be significant name recognition of the player across the fanbase.

(Although if you ask me, it is a very short list of names globally that would satisfy that).

Perhaps the "name recognition" thing wasn't anything stated by Brad or Brian - perhaps it was just fan chatter.

    >> Does anyone have a link to the news item with that comment?

    Thanks in advance.

Here are two recent statements, but neither alludes to name recognition in any way.

The new player is recognizable to revs fans because like so many acquisitions of the past he never came to fruition.

What was that imaginary player's name? Fangozo?

Brad went out and signed Fangozo! Very recognizable.

Injury Update | Angking, J. Caicedo, Farrell all on the mend ahead of season opener
    https://www.revolutionsoccer.net/po...-caicedo-farrell-all-mend-ahead-season-opener

My Bold - we really have not seen anything from C2 just yet - but clearly Freidel is counting on him to score a boatload of goals. Hope he heals quickly.

Caicedo missed the final three preseason matches with a minor muscular injury, but Friedel said he’s on the verge of a return and could recover in time for Saturday’s opener.

“He’s day-to-day,” Friedel said of the Colombian forward. “Hopefully, he can be with us this weekend. We’re expecting big things from him this season.”

thats my mispelling. Reis was at United Healthcare a few years ago in hartford. My brother worked there and emailed me saying he was there. I emailed him a picture of Matt with the wig and headband.[IMG] My brother printed it and ran down to the meeting room and said before you leave can you autograph this and handed to to him. My bro said Matt laughed his ass off. He signed it Fangoso!

Brad is speaking the God's Honest Truth, and so expect soon to have at least one of the legendary Donal Perez........ or the fantastic former phenom, Duc Pho..... or the fabled Diomedes Ptsakis...... as soon as Apollo's chariot starts its next steedy course over the blue.

If this drags on much longer, their season could be effectively over before DP #2 steps on the field.

But don'tcha know? The games don't really count until after May 1.

If that was the case, last year would have been a hell of a lot worse, like 1999 MetroStars bad!

As I expected, they go into tomorrow's game with 26 players on the roster.

Final results of the off-season brings in 7 new players:
    2 - home growns
    2 - SuperDraft picks
    2 - international signings
    1 - trade

Even if we assume they're saving 1 for that "big international dp signing" they havent followed through on, thats still 2 empty roster spots more than the team should have, especially with their dreadful situations at CM and CB

    Hmmm...

Saw one video where his agents called him "The New Kante". Not buying that in terms of quality, but it's certainly the type of player the Revs could use.

It has to be the revs. The other 23 teams realize the season's started already.

The "New Kante?" OK, Douda Kante was a decent player for a couple of seasons in the early Nicol years for us, but let's not get over-hyped about this!

A midfield utility player is not exactly a position of need for the Revs nor is he a Premier level player which I though I read Brad saying he was interested in bringing in. Is this guy DP level in anyone's eyes? Sorry but please let this unnamed team not be the Revs

I thought they might have been referring to Ibrahim Kante.

I keep saying the revs biggest need is a #8. I dont know if he is better than Caldwell or Zahibo, which is a pretty low bar to clear.
