I can't imagine Vlatko would send an international slot. We're already 3 or 4 slots short... that's one of the reasons for off loading Naho.
I have to say trading away Estelle Johnson is stupid. Evidence for me that this youth coach hasn't been paying much attention to the Spirit senior team.
In addition to the trade of Estelle Johnson, Washington is sending goalkeeper Haracic and Dydasco to Sky Blue.
From Christina Gibbons' instagram, it appears that she is retiring. Another Sky Blue player down... 1084123434014175232 is not a valid tweet id
Wow, a highly rated young player retiring because of SBFC. Hopefully she's back in the next year or so when another team can get her rights. Below is a live look at Duffy and this SBFC situation.
Well, it happened, and Predmore suggests that Naho requested the trade for more playing time. https://thebold.com/seattle-reign-f...-groom-in-trade-with-sky-blue-fc-b2de144f3926 We really need Groom's speed and skill up front. It will take a while for me to get used to but should be good for the team. I will miss Naho a lot.
I am somehow relieved that this move was expressly asked by Naho and it sure makes sense that she wants to playto keep her place in the roster for Nadeshiko Japan NT through WWC and Olympics. I just wonder if Sky Blue is the right choice for her: she will only get playing time if Sky Blue FC will actually have a team!
as do i. but I have a healthy respect for harvey's player identification and trading skills. she certainly knows that this league will not give vero the time to take out a recipe book and cook up her well crafted passes on a slow boil. harvey has got to be attempting to sucker some unsuspecting team (orlando, with a new euro coach?) into a deal.
I doubt it as I think Vero is a Harvey type of player to a tee (see Little, Matheson, Gorry, Jonsdottir, etc). Also very rarely are international players used as trade bit when they are first signed.
well then it's going to be a difficult job for desiree scott et al to be lugging around a bucket behind her all year. it can work, but i'll need to see it.
Which is why I do not think this was an inspired trsde. Harvey already tried to play Matheson, Jonsdottir, Gorry, Press, etc in that attacking center mid role and it really did not improve their offense. Bringing the same that of player albeit slightly better than the previous 3 just means more of the same.
actually, i think that vero is much better than most of those. just that at this age she's slower. and slower can be the kiss off death in this league. still, i've seen players who I thought were skilled but too slow, succeed, and some i thought were skilled but too slow, fail. maybe vero is the former rather than the latter. i doubt it. i just think that harvey is wrong this time.

Further info (includes comments from Ashley on why she's headed to Sweden): Julia Ashley's deal is for 5 months with an option for an additional 5 months, meaning there's a possibility she could be back in June. Maybe if Sky Blue has gotten their act together, she'll head back to the States.
That's an interesting aspect... Reminds me that, a bit before the draft, there was talk that one of the guys at the helm was saying they'd have a big announcement in about a month concerning improvements and such... Too little too late for the draft itself, I guess, but maybe they do in fact have something in the pipeline.
Well, if it were somewhere other than a Nordic country, maybe? But Sweden and all the other countries up there run spring to fall; June falls smack dab in the middle of their season. That said, it could also mean that she's hoping to hit the summer transfer window and land in England, Germany, Spain, etc. anyway.
Reign waive Addo. https://www.reignfc.com/blog/2019/2/5/reign-fc-waive-forward-elizabeth-addo I'm disappointed. Reign had too many internationals, but not enough attacking. Possibly more moves to come.
There are a long break then for the WWC, that splits our seasson in two. So contracts that are for less than a full season tend to go until that break starts.
