Belatedly, it is announced that Davidson is in the draft. What do you suppose was the point of her waiting until the last minute to declare? Frankly, such drama doesn't appeal much to me.
She knows she might be the number one pick and she's just trying to act all dramatic about it. Or maybe she forgot to register and was like whoops! Either way my thoughts are Davidson and Mace are 1 and 2 or vice versa. Chicago and Sky Blue are getting the top Pac 12 studs either way. Sky Blue better be getting some improvements done during the off season or it will be a shame that these top rookies are going to a bad place.
Gunna give it a shot. Chicago - Tierna Davidson Sky Blue - Hailie Mace Sky Blue - Julia Ashley Washington - Jordan DiBiasi North Carolina - Dorian Bailey Sky Blue - Tegan McGrady Washington - Ally Prisock Washington - Emily Ogle North Carolina - Sam Staab Sky Blue - CeCe Kizer Sky Blue - Kayla McCoy Houston - Julie James Houston - Caitlin Farrell North Carolina - Leah Pruitt Chicago - Kayla Sharples Houston - Bianca St. Georges Portland - Maria Sanchez Houston - April Bockin
I don't think it was to be dramatic although she may have been asked to delay the announcement a bit. But camp only started a couple of days ago. I'm guessing she wanted some more face-to-face meeting time with Ellis before making a final decision. She probably also wanted to get checked by medical staff at camp after coming back from injury. Just because it was what Ellis wanted her to do and a rule was created just for her to do so doesn't mean it was an easy decision for her to leave college early. I don't think she needed a guarantee from Ellis or medical staff that she'd be on the WWC roster, but I do think having those conversations were important factors in her decision, because the only way that this move is the wisest one is if she gets to stay in form with her NWSL team and then become a member of the WWC team and receive all of the salary and bonuses that come with it.
Off to downtown Chicago, breakfast with CRS supporters and than the walk to McCormick Place for the draft. I have my thermals on because it's very cold outside and probably even colder by the lake. But I don't care. This should be so cool for engaged and avid supporters of the women's game like us. I hope to see a little of people there. When I get back, I'll let you guys know what "important" people I saw there and how it went.
The location this year looks nice. As a Seattle fan this draft is going to be uneventful as we have no picks. Hopefully there will be some trades to make things interesting.
Roster news now official (although already reported earlier elsewhere). Roster risen to 20-22 players with 4 supplemental spots at league minimum that will not count against salary cap. New salary cap at $421,500 (new min $16,538 and max $46,200).
With the roster that Chicago has if they don't win the league next year not only should Dames be fired but he should refund his salary to the fans.
#2 Mace to Sky Blue. And now we have a trade. Washington Spirit get the #3 pick and Sky Blue gets, um, some players...
The Spirit already had the #4 pick. Sky Blue, in addition to players, got the #29 pick as a part of the trade.
#5 Leah Pruitt to North Carolina (like NC needs another forward...) McGrady dropping further than many thought...
Washington Spirit take a timeout. In other news, Lori Lindsey's mic is back to working, and I miss Aly Wagner being at the desk.
On twitter, its being reported that Estelle Johnson is one of the 3 players headed from the Spirit to Sky Blue.
