LA Force couldn't even be buggered to tweet during the game. (And Philadelphia's game was postponed, saving them embarrassment for a bit.)
Friend of a friend received a dozen comps for 1904's opener. They are papering the house and they are going to lose a lot of money very quickly.
Take a gander at 1904’s ticketmaster site. Pretty much every seat is still available other than what they’ve blocked off to give away. I’d say 1000 actual attendance would be a miracle but I’ll report back on Sat. It’s going to look terrible regardless in 70,000 seat Qualcomm Stadium. No clue what they thought they were doing choosing that venue.
Heh, true. I mean I can’t think of a reason thought would have led them to Qualcomm unless they’re playing a long game hoping to get into SDSUs new stadium on the site and make a play for MLS. But they’re going to eat years of heavy losses.
USL beat them to the truly viable smaller venue in town, right? I mean when you are shut out of Torero and you can't build, what else is there besides like Southwestern or maybe what's left of Balboa? This whole thing has just seemed too grandiose from the get-go.
Reddit has bought into this league hook, line, and sinker. Between San Diego padding their numbers and the Fury nonsense it seems like nothing was learned from NASL sadly.
I mean Southwestern, Mesa College, SDSUs sports deck (at least as big as where the Force were playing), Balboa... plenty of other more appropriately sized venues besides the obvious best option at Torero. Qualcomm is either for the afore mentioned long shot long play, or is simply an act of hubris by a group that sees themselves as bigger than they are. Having heard them, I’m leaning toward the latter.
They’ve pulled the event from ticketmaster more than a day from opening night. Guess they’re going into mad dash give all the tickets away mode. Correction, 1904 have pulled all their tickets from ticketmaster. However they are still available from the 1904 website where they’re now claiming the cheap seats have “sold out”. Conveniently you can’t see exactly which seats are available on the website like you could on TM.
Going off what Kenn is hearing with them giving away tickets for their first game. I get the idea behind it, but I’ll doubt they’ll get many returning customers.
But...if you give someone a ticket, the next time they'll pay for it! That's accepted Bigsoccer wisdom and has been for years! I would imagine 1904 either moves to a smaller venue between home games one and two or (should they survive to the spring) for the spring. We have people going, so we will have evidence I am sure. As for the Reddit brigade, that is not a surprise. Same type of fanboy who wrote letters to Sunil saying they had never felt a connection to any league like they did to the NASL before the NASL had actually played a game as a league.
And I’m sure if NISA goes belly up they’ll blame SUM, MLS, & USL again and flock to the next start up league. They’ll ignore that America soccer isn’t close to being ready for an open system and winter schedule yet.
This was on reddit. NISA Showcase Attendance Report up to September 8th : @oaklandrootssc with a sellout vs @CalUtdStrikers , @DetroitCityFC vs @philly_fury draws over 5800, and @LosAngelesForce vs San Diego's @1904_FC with just under 1K. pic.twitter.com/ji2P06zV8h— Leonardo (@Leonard_FC) September 13, 2019
Didn't see ( a ) where the 4,556 figure came from for Oakland or ( b ) why a junior college football team has a 5k stadium, but, okay. Also, Detroit doesn't count as they're not actually in the league, but, again, okay, Reddit. 1904 papered enough of the house to look like this, apparently: Supposedly they charged $20 for parking, only accepted cash for tickets and the ATM charged a $6 fee to get cash.
(Also, the Atlanta SC game that was originally scheduled for today at a local high school was apparently rescheduled to tomorrow at Life University.)
Yep. That’s the whole crowd for 1904FC (camera missed like 20 guys behind the goal making up the supporters group). Maybe 1000 actually there? And yes parking was $20, not many took them up on it. CC were not accepted for payment and you had to get in line to physically pick up all online purchased tickets (other then the 5 people who bought through ticketmaster like me before they yanked the tickets). ATM did charge to pull cash out. And they were turning families with strollers away at the lone gate they had open (which was leading to Chargers style lines at said gate despite the paltry attendance). All in all, a total shitshow. They actually play next game I’ll be shocked.
this is probably a true number. Felt a little more than this but that's usually the case. But was a decent atmosphere and the level of play was better than I expected, mind you my expectations were pretty low. @athletics68 comments about the teething problems were spot on. Hopefully they sort it out next time. @kenntomasch have no clue why they aren't playing at a smaller venue, they're has been a lot of investment in HS stadiums around the city in the last ten years which would suit them a lot more. Maybe they want to make a point to play on natural grass? A lot of the nicer HS venues are artificial.
Can't even get crowd figures out of Chattanooga anymore, but there is this: 1173050331208585217 is not a valid tweet id Cosmos and Milwaukee, no chance. But Napa Valley continues to be terrible. They have now lost 2-0, 4-0, 6-0, 1-0 and 3-0.
Hearing the crowds at the Sunday NISA games where pretty sparse. Miami also put on a clinic against Philly winning 8-1.
