This is a pretty good kit reveal ad by Trabzonspor. The shirt looks pretty good with the interwoven colors: Trabzonspor just pulled off the greatest kit announcement of all time. https://t.co/p0P2KkPtiM— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) July 20, 2019
Anyone else find the MLS week skills competition cringe worthy? Or am I just not open to new things? Details are the MLS website.
I am completely uninterested in the skills competition. And mostly uninterested in the All-Star game. Baseball is the only sport where All-Star games work, since baseball is not much of a team sport - it's almost all about the pitcher-hitter confrontation.
Sadly, I am a bit interested in it. Want to see how it goes. Is it completely campy like the old one? Does it show the serious skill these players have? I will likely watch (or record and skip through). One thing people don't always get about soccer is that there really is a lot of skill. It is more than just fitness. non-fans are always griping about how "boring" the game is (even non-Rapids games), perhaps showcasing some of the skill would help. Or maybe it will just be silly-ness and we shouldn't do it again. At least worth a try. rod.
I don't even care if its silly. Sometimes that stuff is just fun. I remember the old QB skills challenges that ESPN2 used to run over and over to fill time. Seeing Dan Marino throwing at a target board being wheeled across a field was goofy but fun.
Did that happen? It does seem surprising. But if she wasn't going to get a 3rd cycle (and she probably shouldn't), why not go out on top. It leaves the new coach some time as well.
Oh VAR, what CAN'T you do? This would be a great halftime show! The pitch might not be playable afterward, but it'd be worth it.
I do watch and enjoy the All-Star game if I happen to be home, and I've attended and really enjoyed the ones in Colorado, it is fun to see big stars all on the same team. How was the skills thing? I missed it.
The Scottish Highland Games in Estes Park the weekend after Labor Day usually has a jousting exhibition as part of it. Its impressive to see in person, and that's just "light" jousting.
The skills challenge was actually quite fun. You can read a write up and watch the highlights here: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...ls-all-star-skills-challenge-presented-target My wife and I actually really enjoyed it. It went on for probably an hour and a half or so. There was plenty of trash talk between the competitors, and it was pretty funny to watch "world class" players miss volleys then hit some stellar ones, smash home some PK's and then sky them, then finally hit the cross bar from midfield instead of going for easy points. I hope they do it again next year. It was a fun little outting.
The skills looked fun. The All-Star game was rain soaked in the end but highlights looked like an OK game. I hope Athletico Madrid are good this year. I am always desperate for someone different to win a European league so I'd take them over Barca or Real Madrid if they could do it.
Oh c'mon now. Jousting requires horses, and that would seem a bit inconsistent in soccer. Let's keep the tie-breaker a human event. May I suggest the Caber toss?
Wow, I didn't know MLS had a policy. Makes sense, I guess. Roman Torres suspended 10 games for use of performance-enhancing drug Wonder what it was... if it was one of those drugs that boost red blood cells, or more of a anabolic steroid type thing.
Well, he lives in the PNW where Vitamin D is considered a performance enhancing drug. Maybe too much milk?
12th min of added time in Club Always Ready's game vs. Bolívar in Bolivian top flight y'day. After talking to 4th official, ref makes VAR sign, points to his ear and gives penalty to Always Ready. One problem - there is no VAR in the Bolivian league.pic.twitter.com/u13z2fpsac— Joshua Law (@JoshuaMLaw) August 4, 2019
So Ale Bedoya grabbed a field-level mic after scoring his goal and shouted, live on national television:"HEY CONGRESS, DO SOMETHING. END GUN VIOLENCE NOW." My man. Need a lot more voices like his in pro sports. #DOOP #DCU pic.twitter.com/UrexCrVIx3— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 5, 2019
MLS has decided he won't be fined or suspended for this. Technically you could say its not a political statement as he didn't express support for one side or the other just called for Congress to take action. That's a pretty thin hair they split though.
