Depending upon how you view it, either 48 points was required to make the playoffs or 45 points (1 more than 8th - some people look at that). Two observations - 1) Portland really struggled in the second half after navigating a first half of the season mostly on the road; 2) San Jose lost their final 6 games and 7 of their final 9 games and still had a chance to make the playoffs on the final day. They really hit a wall - partially a tough schedule but that is a pretty big collapse to lose last 6 when 1 win may have got you in.

i see it as you basically have to go .500 to make the playoffs. Dallas made it in with 13W-9T-12L. that's why i clutch my chest every time Webbsters (fans who are homers) tout the company line. you basically have to be average to make the playoffs. so what does it say about a team that doesnt make it.
The Dynamo lost 18 games this season - over half!! No ties on the road. To claim this team is just a step away from MLS Cup is ludicrous

i think everyone who ever tweeted, retweeted, Reddited, commented that on Facebook needs to apologize to the rest of us.
MLS Cup 2019 will also be a rematch of previous Cup Finals between Toronto FC and Seattle. 2016 and 2017 they locked horns with each other. Both clubs have set the bar recently for navigating their path back to MLS Cup.
On the lighter side of the sport, there is this nice piece on a ball boy and his sudden fame over in Great Britain. https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2019/1...reward-thumbs-up-ball-boy-after-viral-moment/
2019 MLS Playoffs Home team first, times are CT. MLS Cup: Sunday, November 10 (W2) Seattle 3-1 (E4) Toronto Seattle wins their 2nd MLS Cup and their 7th trophy (4 Open Cups and 1 Supporter Shield) overall. 6 teams have now won at least 2 MLS Cups, all currently in the Western Conference except for DC United.
That being LAEG, Houston, Kansas City, San Jose and now Seattle. D.C. United outta the Eastern Conference. Going into Season 25 in 2020, the history of the league is there to prove that the Western Conference soccer scene is the rougher road to cut a path to a League championship.
